One major difference between the USCHO poll and the NCAA rankings is the placement of Amherst. The NCAA rankings (and the Krach) look at Amherst in a much better light than the uSCHO voters. Luckily for Amherst, the NCAA ranking is the only one that matters!

Not too surprising. Pretty much matched what I had except for a few exceptions. Manhattanville and Fredonia being so high at this point is laughable, as is ranking Babson and to a certain extent Neumann.

That said, it is very obvious as to why those teams are ranked, and it is for the very same reason the western committee ranked Augsburg who has no business being there. That is to boost the resume of the teams in contention for Pool C. Is it right? No. But it is what it is.

Overall though, no real complaints, one last observation is that Elmira is in a lot more trouble than I/we previously thought. They have zero room for error as the committee has Manhattanville right on their heals. Regardless of what happens this weekend, I think the committee just set it up for the winner of the ECAC West tourney to get the Pool B and the only ticket from the ECAC West.

.......curious as to why you think Augsburg's appearence in the ranking is a strategic move by the western committee. The west committee seem to have a long history of being out maneuvered by their eastern counterparts.
Whose resume would be "boosted" ? Do you think the MIAC have a better shot at the western at large bid than the NCHA ?

In addition, I'm not sure who else you can put in there. Even if one were to believe the NCHA teams are better, Point, Stout, Superior and Eau Claire are all under .500. Marian is a possibility but not likely to get the nod over the NCHA teams, so that leaves Augsburg at 14-8-1. Not too unreasonable, really, be it a de facto selection or not.

It's kind of sad, actually...Here it’s go to the rink, pay for your ice time and practice for an hour where we could just walk to the rink and skate for four hours if we wanted to...It was just a lot of fun. No, it's not earth-shattering to have Augsburg ranked, but here are two teams which should/could have been ranked above them.

Neither of those is clear cut at all, and if you want to put in Marian or UST you bring the other NCHA teams into the mix. Far easier to just go with a 14-8-1 Augsburg.

Every other NCHA team is below .500, can a sub .500 team even be considered for ranking?

Honestly, I'm not sure. Wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't be, though. Even if that's the case, I don't see too much of an issue with Augsburg.

Aside: As far as Marian goes, it would be odd to see them ranked when an undefeated Adrian couldn't even crack the top seven last year...
