Oh my, an unexcused absence. Grounds for discipline.

The news about Mangene is a total crapper. He might not put up a ton of points, but he plays balls to the wall every shift. Be fun to watch over the next few years. Hopefully the tri heals sooner than later.

From the sounds if it, the exhibition games came at a good time. Get some key guys healed up.

Nice to see Jimmy playing well for a Detroit team that hasn't hit their stride yet. Picked up a 4-3 shootout win over Minny. Over his last 8 he had put up a 1.97 and an overall 2.18 in 30 games started. Almost a .93 save percentage too. Not bad...finally getting the chance.

On the other hand Dustin Penner has had some struggles over the last couple of years, especially with some coaches. In a recent SI article, Penner is featured in an article titled Dog House Diaries. A great quote from Penner:

"Typically the first sign of the doghouse is decreased ice time, followed by some form of verbal abuse. This is followed by headaches and diarrhea. Merck is working on a pill for it."

            entire article

Todays article from Larry in todays BDN about losing McNeely to Minn-Duluth. Also has a bit on the death of Shawn as the third most significant college hockey story of the decade.

Does anyone else find the bit in this article about Sawyer Arena's ice humorous but at the same time sad? Why can't we get these guys/equipment at Alfond???
You know you go to UMaine if...

...you think Bananas is a good name for a giant bear.
...you would riot after hockey games but its too darn cold.
...you think hockey is the only sport that matters.
                ...you hate UNH.

Here's my opinion on why the ice is better at Sawyer. The air temperature is colder. The Alfond has to be warmer to accommodate basketball. For anyone who has been to Sawyer Arena they can vouch for how cold it is.

Well Larry wrote the article, he can't be expected to proof read his work before he turns it in can he?

It's not an NCAA violation yet. The kid still has not signed a national letter of intent, so theoretically if he changed his mind again and decided to come to Maine, it would then be an NCAA violation. Funny that the NCAA has ~450 pages of rules, but nothing forbidding you from speaking about other schools' recruits. By talking about it publicly, Tim just assured that this kid can never go to Maine. Considering he chose Duluth for travel reasons it seems unlikely he was going to change his mind. Still, it would be better if Tim stuck to the "no comment" line.
