  • The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

My son and I were talking about college hockey, as we do often, when it got around to "legacy" coaches that have spawned numerous other coaches or professional players. Naturally Jack Parker (along with Charlie Holt) came up.

When we realized the Parker "begats", we realized that there were enough of them to probably encompass most of the collegiate and professional ranks.

Being a fan of the Kevin Bacon Drinking Game (or the 6 degress of Kevin Bacon), I soon realized that we could probably make this work for pro and college hockey using Coach Parker as the nexus.

The criteria is that your "link" to Jack must have played for or with Jack @ BU and that he must have played with your link or coached with or coached your link while @ the NCAA level.

    For example
    Len Ceglarski
    Coached Billy O'Flaherty @ Clarkson (1)
Whose Assistant coach @ Clarkson was Terry Meagher (2)
    Who played for Jack (3)

Thus Len Ceglarski would have a Parker number of 3

    or this one:
    Gordie Howe
Played with Red Berenson in 70-71 for Detroit (1)
Who coached Dick Lamby in 80-81 for St. Louis (2)
    Who played for Jack (3)

    OK -- your turn

To make it interesting, I think someone needs to throw out a name and then people try to make the connection.

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

I like it. i tried to come up with some older ones that would be a bit tougher, because it's hard to find teams with no BU connection in the past 20 years or so.

                        Henri Richard
played with Guy Lafleur in MTL
who played with James PAtrick on NYR
who played with Tony Amonte on NYR
                        who was coached by Jack.

                        Eddie Shore
played with Frank Brimsek in Boston (39-40)
who played with Doug Bentley in CHI (49-50)
Who played with Andy Bathgate on NYR (53-54)
Who played with Glen Sather in Vancouver (70-71)
Who coached Tom Poti on NYR (02-03) and Dan LaCouture
who were coached by Jack (is that more than 6? can we get a ruling?)

i debated doing something similar as i can link myself through hockey leagues to jackie two different ways (each in 3 steps), one through travis roy and the other through doug friedman.
