Chambers' Denver Post story suggested the Wrenn and Martin will return to the lineup this weekend, while Nutini won't.

Nominees for WCHA Player of the Week:
Offense --Anthony Maiani and Malcolm Gwillam from Tech
Defense--Cody Brookwell-- Keep it up Cody. He's been great on the last 4-6 games.
Rookie--Matt Donovan and Steven Seigo from Tech

We won the weekend, but they had some guys who made an impact.
      GO DU !!!

Just for the sake of discussion, let's say the U.S. men's hockey team wins a medal [pick a medal, any medal] in Vancouver.

Denver will play home games on Friday March 5th, Friday March 12th, Saturday March 13th and Sunday March 14th [if necessary].

The Colorado Avs play at Phoenix on Thursday March 4th, would fly home that night and be in Denver Friday March 5th before playing at home on Saturday March 6th against Saint Louis. The Avs play at home on Thursday March 11th against Florida. The Avs would be in Denver on Friday March 12th before flying to Dallas on Saturday the 13th to play the Stars on Sunday the 14th.

Again, the Avs would be in Denver on both Friday March 5th and Friday March 12th. On the first date Denver plays CC and on the second date Denver plays its first round opponent in the WCHA playoffs.

Pick a date, either date. Here's a possible scenario. The teams skate on to the ice for pre-game introductions. The players' names are announced over the public address system. The national anthem is played and/or sung by that evening's performers. While the lights remain dimmed, an announcement is made directing all fans to turn their attention to the Northeast corner of the ice surface, to the doors through which the Zambonis enter and leave the ice surface. The doors swing open, and a figure wearing his U.S.A. men's Olympic hockey jersey, with his recently won gold/silver/bronze medal around his neck, skates on to the ice while the public address announcers asks the crowd to give a warm welcome to former Denver Pioneer star and recent gold/silver/bronze medal winner: Paul Stastny. As I say it's just one possible scenario.

His stat line makes one a bit wary, but its hard not to trust "Killer" at this point.

Why would a d-man's stats worry you?

DU hasn't done much solid recruiting of players from that area since John Harrington -- if really even then. I personally like this development, I think our last recruit from Edina was Jay Moore about 20 years ago.

Current DU junior d-man Joey Brehm is from Edina. Although he's never played in a non-exhibition game.

True. I think it was last season's exhibition game where Brehm took maybe 5 or 6 shifts and took about 3 or 4 penalties.

We mostly have had role players (Vossberg/May types) from around the Twin Cities the past 20 years -- except for Berkhoel, Chris Kenady and Jay Moore. I fully welcome this development of us getting a potential impact player from up there.

EDIT: Bryan Schoen could have been a top one, if he hadn't played on DU's worst-ever teams...

EDIT 2: http://www.collegehockeystats.net/08...s/malbden1.o04 -- Brehm did indeed take 3 penalties (all lazy holding and hooking penalties) by about halfway through that game and I'm pretty sure he didn't take another shift after that 3rd penalty. No surprise we haven't seen him in a non-exhibition game.

Van Vooris just turned 17 last month so he still has time to grow. Bozak was 5'7" when he was 18 and ended up 6'1 when he arrived at DU three years later.

The most valuable commodity in college hockey these days are puck moving defensemen. Look at DU on Saturday night, goals by Wiercioch & Donovan moving through Tech's defense untouched.

In the modern era of college hockey, even strength goals have become a rarity and the reason why is that defenses are packed in and the goaltenders spread out in the butterfly all game long. A defenseman who can deliver a flat puck and/or skate through the neutral zone opens up all sorts of easy goals.

According to USHR this kid is an "excellent skater and puck handler with great mobility."

He is going to tear things up in the college game.

Be careful with thoses stats. Those are only his stats in the USHL with the U-17 team, the youngest team in the league. It does not reflect any international or non-USHL games the U-17 team plays. The USHL teams typically have older 18 to 20 year old players. The U-18 team is also in the USHL and is significantly more successful.
