The way Notre Dame is playing, no way do you get swept. No way do you drop more than a point, in fact. I wouldn't be shocked to see a vintage Michigan beatdown at Yost on Thursday, followed by another convincing UM win on Saturday in South Bend. Notre Dame is a team in disarray right now and I believe they have mentally checked out on the season.

Yeah, I can hear the secret conversations between the teams:

ND Player: "Man, what a brutal season. We lost to BG."

Michigan Player: " Yeah, so did we. On home ice. Worse yet, you guys beat us, too."

      Woe is us, IHF.

        Positives from last night...
        -Win
        -Power Play
        -Comeback after choking on lead
-Unusual scoring sources, and Louie with 3 A's.

        The usual...
-How did the 4th goal go in from the 180 degree angle to the net? There's the softie. Did the net need repair after the play as the M player hacked at in frustration?

-Awesome assist, er turnover by Kampfer on NMU's first goal by Hanson. Good way to start the game when own team is in a scoring slump and lacks confidence to play catchup. I'll just dish out a soft pass in the faceoff circle, you take it from there. Story of the second half.

-Like the MSU game at JLA, choke away a lead entering the third, and come back, and hang on to win.

Let's get ready for the Frustrated Underachiever Weekend against Notre Dame.

Ferris State has clinched a fifth place spot in the CCHA. At worst Ferris can tie Michigan for 4th place, but the Wolverines would go ahead in the standings because of Conference wins. So Ferris would be in 5th place with home ice advantage.

All the 'Dawgs need is 1 point, a shootout lose, and they will clinch first round bye in the CCHA.

It probably would've been sufficient to leave that in the Ferris thread instead of bumping 7 others as well. I'll give you that there's some relevance here.

There is NO "6th Place" banner hanging in BG's barn.

                  1. Joe College is one of the most pathetic mascots ever

                  2. Michigan has a home game tonight. Which of the underachieving teams will come out on top?

Um I am sure the advertising just hasn't yet because they are waiting to see who finishes in the top 4 that way they don't waste money in places where there would be no interest! Which is a good strategy but would involve a very heavy push in a short peroid of time!

Plus Social Media is free so why wouldn't they push that!

If you are Joe College, it's apparent why you've been in college so long. And may need some remediation....

Out of boredom and curiousity today I played with the league points for the CCHA and looked at what they would be without a shootout, as well as what they would be if we still had the absurd scoring from last year.

Feel free to ignore this post, I just thought others may also be curious.

                              Here is what I found:

Michigan is currently in 6th place with last night's win. Michigan can not finish any lower than 8th. In bizzaro world where neither Sparty nor Ferris take points from Bowling Green and Western, respectively, Michigan could tie for 2nd. Finishing 4th is a possibility with a win and NMU not taking more than 4 points from Lake State.
                              Miami 66
                              MSU 46
                              FSU 46
                              Alaska 45
                              UNO 44
                              Michigan 43
                              NMU 42
                              tOSU 38
                              LSSU 35
                              Notre Dame 33
                              BGSU 21
                              WMU 18

If the CCHA were still giving out 2 points for a win and 2 points for a shootout win/1 point for a shootout loss (as they did last year), Michigan would be hosting a playoff next week. No way around it. We'd be in 7th place with 29 points currently. Best the blue could finish is tied for 5th with UNO and NMU if NMU gets no points on the weekend. Lowest possible finish would be tied for 8th with LSSU.

                              Crazy scoring from last year:
                              Miami 46
                              Alaska 34
                              MSU 33
                              FSU 33
                              UNO 31
                              NMU 31
                              Michigan 29
                              tOSU 28
                              LSSU 25
                              Notre Dame 25
                              BGSU 17
                              WMU 14

In a "normal league" as I like to call the conferences which do not have shootouts, Michigan would currently be tied for 5th with 29 points. The lowest possible finish would be tied for 7th with tOSU, and the highest possible finish would be tied for 2nd (If MSU lost both games, and Ferris took no more than 1 point). The normal league standings would look as follows (with Omaha and Alaska finished conference play, Michigan and Notre Dame could at most earn 2 points, all other teams could earn up to 4 points):

                              Miami 44
                              MSU 31
                              Ferris 30
                              Alaska 30
                              Michigan 29
                              UNO 29
                              Northern 28
                              tOSU 25
                              LSSU 23
                              Notre Dame 23
                              Bowling Green 13
                              Western 13

So more or less, fans can complain about however points are earned, but for the most part it doesn't make a difference.

There have been a ton of ties this year, though.
