I think your hockey team's GLI performance may have poisoned your women's basketball team.......

Payne has been very successful as a coach - never had a losing season and won the ECHL championship with Alaska (2005-06) posting 53 wins in a 72 game regular season! It would be nice if they eventually remove the "interim" title and give him the job, but with only one year of experiance as head coach in the AHL that would be a stretch. And a rip off from Rocky III sums it up best...
Wow, thanks for the news on Payne. I didn't know he played for Tech, but I always admired him when he coached in Alaska. Too bad the Seawolves didn't have him instead of the Aces. Oh the possibilities that might have been.

        From ADN:

"According to NCAA, the (UAF) hockey team used ineligible players in every game played from the 2007-08 season to the 2010-11 season. Over that span, the wins and ties will all become losses. 4 wins and 2 ties came against rival UAA".

        UAF is 56-86-12 vs. UAA.

So for my brother's bday, the family is going to a Plymouth Whalers (OHL) game. I just now looked at the tickets to see who we are playing... Windsor Spitfires. My immediate response was... ****. Windsor is 31-4-0-4 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and the Whalers are 22-17-0-1. Why do I have to be tortured like this? FML.

Whoa Yager, did you know that Taylor Hall and Cam Fowler both play for Windsor?

                  QUOTE

That's not quite true, both MacCleod and Bunger will go to the net but neither are getting a lot of ice time. Check out Kivisto's last goal if you have access to the video.
Haven't seen it yet, can't get that page to open today for some reason.

I will take your word for it. But are they just driving to the net looking for the rebound? Just passing through? Or are they setting up shop right in front of the goalie, fronting up to the shooter? Think Thomas Holmstom..(whom Shelast was often compared to)

In the few games I've seen the past couple of seasons I can't say as I've seen anyone do that at all.

I see them stop just next to the goalie. I see them skate past in front of the goalie, I see them drive to the net as the shot is taken.

But not camp out directly in front of him.

The goal that I was addressing occured against NMU. I have a copy of the game from the B2 webcast. Not sure where else it is available, possibley on the B2 Network. On that particular play, Bunger was directly in front of the NMU goalie and it looks like the goalie didn't see the shot.

Let's be honest, the GLI from a hockey stand point is all about getting Michigan and MSU in the championship game. They are huge rivals and to get the biggest crowd and best game for broadcast on TV (and ratings) they want UM and MSU playing in the final. Thus those two will never play each other in the first round. Think of it another way, if NMU and MTU hosted a tourney, you would want those two teams to face each other in the final because you know it would be a hot game - it always is. The real problem is that recently Tech has not been on the same level as UM or MSU and it doesn't matter who the 4th team is because Tech will never play them in the first round game.
In theory this makes sense but really it doesn't. Fox Sports has absolutley nothing to do with the tourney, they use to broadcast all of the games (so really it wouldn't matter when Michigan and Michigan State played), now they only reluctantly broadcast the Championship game and I'm almost sure they don't get the best rating from even that game. As far as tickets sold at the gate, it doesn't matter all tickets purchased count the same and pretty everybody who goes to the GLI is counted for that day no matter if you stay for both games or not, so everybody who shows up is counted no matter if they showed up to watch Michigan State play in the second game against Michigan or the early game against Wayne State Community College, this is important because I see the same people coming for either game. Lastly I think there is just as big a Michigan Tech crowd showing up year then anybody else.

If the argument is Michigan and State draw bigger crowds and make for better TV audiences I think it would actually be in a good idea to play the Michigan, Michigan State game in the first round to get it over with and that way it's guaranteed to happen every year.

Really when is the last time State and Michigan played at the GLI.
                        Just so we never forget.

That was more Bunger having an energy shift than anything that consistently happens. If Bunger (or anyone else for that matter) would play like that every shift, he'd be on the first line. Easily.
