  • Re: RPI III: Revenge of the Seth

Jerry D'Amigo is wearing 29 and listed on a line with Stepan and Kristo in the US vs. UND game. On FSCS now if you have the extra sports channels otherwise will be on tape delay on NHL Network tomorrow.

On Saturday, the US Under-20 Team defeated North Dakota 4-2. Jerry D'Amigo had an assist on USA's empty net goal, and a roughing penalty. http://collegehockeystats.net/0910/boxes/mndku201.d19

      Sorry Ralph, couldn't resist.

The first round of cuts was announced today for the US U-20 team and Jerry is still on the team. Two more players will be cut after the team's exhibition game in Saskatoon, to reach the final 22-man roster.

Only one Michigan player left on the roster. I was hoping that they would lose more players for the GLI than we will.

                      Possible candidates for recruitment(read: uncommitted):

                      Des Moines
H.T. Lenz: He's a 5'10" 175 forward, but he's also an '89. He's putting up decent scoring numbers for a team that doesn't score much.
                      Austin Coldwell: He's a 6'1" 190 defenseman and a '90. 6 goals, 6 assists this year and not much to report PIM-wise.
Brandon Carlson: 6'2" 200 defenseman who is a '92. 3 goals, 3 assists, 50 PIM and a team low -17 +/-. All three of his goals are power play goals.

                      Fargo
Garrett Allen: 5'11" 170 forward and a '92. Fargo seems to score even less than Des Moines does, but Allen is putting up respectable numbers. 9 goals, 7 assists in 24 games.
Grant Scott: 6'2" 210 defenseman and a '90. Fargo's site isn't one much for elaborate statistics but he's got 1 goal and 5 assists.
                      Chad Demers: 5'10" 175 forward and a '90. 3 goals and 5 assists in 20 games. Yawn.
                      Brian Cooper: 5'9" 175 forward and a '93. 2 goals, 2 assists in 21 games.
Oleg Yevenko: 6'7" 225 defenseman and a '91 from Belarus. 1 goal, 2 assists in 20 games. I'd imagine he's a defensive specialist. His weight would indicate he's not an iceberg either.

Just some food for thought and snooping around. I was bored so, hey, why not?
                      Thanks for that list GLM.
Assuming Ralph is right (I think so) and Appert was in Fargo looking primarily at defencemen, I'm sure (being the greedy recruiter that he is ) Seth took a hard look at Coldwell and Carlson for Des Moines.

-Brandon Carlson is young (17) but he seems to have some stick skills - tallying 39 pts. for Chicago Mission in midgets last year...certainly a kid worth contacting and watching with that big frame.

                      - Austin Coldwell is a kid we could bring in next year. He was the first pick by Des Moines in the entry draft. He had somewhere in the vicinity of 30 pts. and 68 PIMs for Springfield (NAHL) last year.

Personally, I think that he was primarily looking at Grant Scott. Obviously, he saw everyone else. If Luke Curadi turns out to be for 2011, we have two of the four dmen we need that year, so replacing the four graduating forwards (Helfrich, Polacek, Halpern, Beauregard) may be a higher priority after that.

Given the number of forwards on the team and in the hopper, replacing Beauregard probably isn't a high priority.

Very true. I didn't mean to imply that replacing all 4 was the next most important to do, but replacing Helfrich and Polacek probably is.

I'm sure you do, but we don't have all of the closely held secret info that you do.

I do think Scott is the likely target given his ties to USNTP and having a year under his belt in a top program like the Gophers. That said, he hasn't produced much in the way of points, which I am ok with if Scott is a stay at home, shutdown type of defenceman. If that's the case, then bring him on.

Coldwell is an attractive blueline candidate with a proven offensive upside both in the USHL and NAHL. As for Carlson, at 6'2 200 as a 17 year old, we need to be interested in him, no matter what the roster numbers say. Just ask Doc.
