Even though the Cats are 1-3-1, I think they have a great chance of sweeping Ohio State, regardless of their past records. I believe Ellingson will start this weekend. The offense showed that they can compete with the #1 ranked team in the country. Even though the score didn't show it, they gained a lot of momentum for this weekend.

Nice first post. If we can catch OSU napping we may be able to steal 3 points this weekend and get right back into the thick of things. Doing well this weekend changes our season around completely.

2-3-2 or 3-3-1 is a helluva lot better than 1-5-1.

At least at end of periods and post game, may try to do goals or penalties as time allows, but will be numbers not names, such as 18 from 21, 7 13:35 ppg or 2 hold 12:07

You can also tweet questions comment or just let us know who you are and where you are listening from and we'll give ya a shout. I'll try to answer on air. I used to do pretty much the same with AOL IM back in 05-06. It's a great way for me to get feedback and to have fans involved. Now, it'll be nearly impossible to get everything 100%, but I'll do as much as I can without detracting from the broadcasts.

Yes. He looked decent down here last March. There hasn't been a strong leader for this program since Oystrick in 2003 and a player who played with heart since Riipi in 2001. The recruits of the Kyle era really haven't earned the title of the hardest working team in college hockey. There are no excuses this year, the players such as Olver and others are now upper classman and I am tired of lame excuses. I would take the 1998-99 team over this years team anyday BECAUSE they played with HEART. Nonetheless, GO CATS.

I hooked up with about small group of alums out here in Arizona. One of the new board members for the Alumni Association is out here. Does anyone know when the Wildcat Night is this year?

I just signed up as one of your followers Dave. How ironic is that? My screen name is NMUMAN. Now, I'm the lemming! hahahaha

He best way to deal with those disagree is not to silence them, rather to educate them. Thanks for signing on BB. As for Kariyas statement about no one playing with heart since Riips finished, I'm wondering what his experience is in the game? Or can you just tell from the 14th row. Because I've seen alot of guys with alot of heart in Green and Gold in the past 8 years. What you can see from the stands is only a small view of who's got heart and who's a leader. In the minor pro portion of my career we had a guy who shook hands, kissed babies, knocked back a beer or two with fans, fought well and often and was loved by the fans. They were quite upset when he was released. How could we let go of a team leader was a popular query. They were all unaware that he was arrogant, selfish and generally disrespectful of his coach and teammates, and the guy they all thought played with so much heart was usually the first to shut it down when times were tough. So don't always believe what you think you see, because you often don't know. There are plenty of guys on this team and the past squads that play and have played with plenty of heart. To say otherwise is far from reality.

great post, davyd...

If you aren't in the room, you don't really know what is being said - who is the motivator, the leader, the ***-kicker, etc. Some people never say anything but lead by playing hard from whistle to whistle...I will say if your goalie comes out hot, stopping everything in sight, it fires up the team.

Which guy that is gonna be for NMU this year, remains to be seen.

Would anyone disagree if I said that Oystrick was the epitomy of what playing with "heart" stands for and means? He is my all-time favorite Wildcat. I've never seen a guy play with more emotion, grit, talent and heart than that guy.

So, funny story about Oystie that I don't remember if I shared this here earlier this year or not...

I went to a Rockford Icehogs vs Chicago Wolves game earlier this year... Oystie is playing and starts having trouble with a Rockford player... They are poking and jabbing at each other for 2 shifts before things start to boil over...

The Icehogs dump the puck into the Wolves zone and the player that is bickering with Oystie leaves the ice with a shift change... Oystie stays on the ice... Not 5 seconds later, the Wolves ice the puck... Oystie is stuck on the ice per the icing rules, so he passes the time by jawing with the Rockford player... They both exchange words during the stoppage... Icehogs change lines with the stoppage... At the last second, the player that is jawing with Nathan grabs a teammate and takes his spot on the line at the last second... Everyone knows what is coming next :p

As soon as the puck drops, off come the gloves... Each guy gets a shot or two in, but nothing spectacular... Now this is where it gets fun, and you see Oystrick at his best... The Rockford guy gets a solid uppercut in that drops Oystrick... At this point, the linesmen jump in and break things up...

Only problem is that Nathan isn't done... He pops right back up and continues swinging... OVER THE LINESMEN  :D As the linemen are trying to corral him, his mouth continues to run at about 100 MPH... The linesmen finally get Oystie corralled and heading to the box... As soon as Oystrick gets in the box, he immidiately gets on the glass and continues to jaw at the opposing player in the opposite box...

At this point, there is about 2:30 left to go in the 2nd... Well, the refs had heard enough and decide that Oystie needs to go to the locker room... Oystie continues to jaw the whole way to the tunnel, which is located behind one of the goals... Both teams must exit using the same tunnel.. It's announced that he got a 5 min. for fighting at that time, and nothing else...

Period ends, teams leave... Just before the start of the 3rd, it's announced that Mr. Oystrick recieved a 10 minute GAME MISCONDUCT at 20:00 of the 2nd... Apparently Oystie was waiting in the tunnel at the end of the period and felt the need to get a few more words in during the intermission :D

The people I was at the game with couldn't figure out why I found that whole ordeal so funny and ironic... You really had to know him to get the idea that he wasn't a thug or tough guy... Great times...

I think Oystrick would most certainly be classified as a tough guy. I remember reading something about him once. Someone asked him what he was most looking forward to when he made it to the NHL. I'm pretty sure his response was "my first fight".

He was also a BIG fighter in Juniors. In fact, someone told me that he didn't lose one fight....ever.

I know a lot of 'Cats fans are down about the team's start but from where I sit you guys have had one of the toughest schedules in the nation to start off the season....If this team is like the NMU teams of the past couple of years then i see your playing style meshing up very well with that of OSU...especially with the Buckeyes questionable goaltending situation...this is a very possible sweep for the 'Cats, however if somehow the 'Cats do get swept then it may be time to start getting a tad bit worried.

I'm a tad worried right now. If we can pull out of Columbus with at least 2 points I will take a few fingers off the panic button.
