Live from the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena....U18 Game 1, After 1 Canada 1/Usa 1

US scores first at the 2:12 mark on a heads up play by # 20 Kendal Coyne who picks up a loose puck, splits the Canadian defenders and puts it top shelf, glove side on the breakaway...unassisted.

Canada answers a minute later from the point while enjoying a 5 on 3 power play after a "delay of Game" penalty put the US down two. Goal scored by #19 Jillian Saulnier, assisted by # 9 Hannah Armstrong and #16 Jamie Lee Rattary.

        Penelties: US - 5, Canada - 2
        SOG: US - 5, Canada 15

Starting Goalies: US - # 30 Alex Rigsby, Canada Erica Howe

Canada goes up 2-1 @ 11:11 of the second on a nice individual effort by #16
Rattray on a wrap around. Even Strength.

          Penalties: US - 1, CANADA - 1
          SOG: US - 4, Canada 15 (9/30)
          No goalie changes.

Despite the lop sided SOG, this game is end to end with Canada holding a slight territorial edge. Chances at both ends however.

The US came out flying in the 3rd and beat Canada 4 - 3. They tie the game at 7:21 (PP Goal) when # 20 Kendal Coyne finds #18 Alexander Carpenter streaking to the net and she cashes in a power play goal. The US takes it's second lead of the game @ 11:09 on their second PP goal of the period as #27 Haley Skarupa outwaits the Canadian goalie and buries it high glove side on a nice feed from #7 Meagan Mangene.

Canada answers back 23 seconds later to tie the game back at 3's when #8 Jessica Campbell finds the biscuit in a goal mouth scramble. Assists go to #21 Sarah Davies and #25 Christine Lambert,

The game winner for the US came at the 15:32 mark when a centering pass by 23 Stephanie Mock finds the back of the Canadian net off a Canadian defenders sk8. Assists go to 27 Marissa Gedman & 3 Katie Case.

Canada pulls it`s goalie at 18:46 of the third but never really gets another chance.

            Penalties: US - 0, Canada - 4
            SOG: US - 13, Canada - 9

            IMHO 3 stars: 1st - 30 Alex Rigsby*, 2nd - 16 Jamie Lee Rattray, 3rd - 27 Marissa Gedman.
*- Rigsby was the difference in this game as she was able to keep the US in it till they found their legs in the 3rd. She was stellar....

IMHO Game notes: Two relativley even matched teams despite the Canadian squad being a little older, carrying only two players non 92. The US carries as many as 6 93s. The US PP played a strong game all night hemming the Canadians in and giving them fits at times.

Great game with speed and plenty of play making. Defensivley both squads are strong and can obviously put the biscuit in the basket.
