That's from 1910 in Harvard Stadium. The team played there until WWI.

For sheer continuity of hockey history, it's hard to beat the the Boston Arena (now Matthews Arena), the nation's oldest, continuously operating multipurpose arena, opened in 1910. Nice story and several old pics: https://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/30/s...y/30arena.html

Original home of the Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, New England Whalers (AKA Carolina Hurricanes), and Boston Olympics. Home at one time or another to every college hockey team in Boston and most high school teams in eastern Massachusetts. Original home of the Beanpot Tournament. Now home to the Northeastern Huskies. This building is probably the single biggest reason, with due respect to Bobby Orr, that hockey sunk deep roots in the northeast.

It would be cool if they moved the beanpot back there. It's a shame attendance has dropped so much at the garden, but I certainly can't blame people not wanting to spend the money.

Actually, Beanpot attendance hasn't dropped all that much, especially for the championship. In fact, this year's championship game set an all-time attendance record (17,850) while viewership on NESN was ~640K. Don't know what the ratings were for NHL Network and TSN2, both of which also carried both rounds. The fact that all four teams are once again competitive helps.

Actually not the oldest continuously operating arena ... because it burned down, and was rebuilt. Some arena in Michigan has it beat. But the Matthews thing makes for a fine myth for Northeastern.

I can't imagine a better seat for viewing hockey than the front row of the balcony at The Arena, especially on the sides.

That would be the Calumet Colosseum (known better to many as the Armory), the host of the 2019 Kraft Hockeyville game between the Red Wings and Blues.

Yeah, there was that piddling little fire https://1drv.ms/b/s!AsctSMNJHwhi5dx_...M7tHw?e=0oZVxl that put the original Boston Arena out of commission for a couple of seasons. So I'll amend my post to read oldest continuously operating college hockey arena. Harvard started there in 1921, BU a year later. To my knowledge, the 1948 fire didn't cause the 1948-49 season to be moved elsewhere.

And from what I can read about it, Calumet is a recreational facility that has the look and feel of the old Boston Skating Club. To my knowledge, none of the UP college teams ever called it home.

It also has the oldest operating artificial ice surface, first installed when the arena was built in 1909-10.
