So do the Women's Coaches follow the Men's Ice Hockey Rules or the other rules?

      Re: New Recruiting Rules

From what I understand this does not apply to women's hockey, which is pretty obnoxious.

the way I read it is that the men's rules only apply to men because of junior hockey. Here's another article from the College Hockey News:

So basically every recruit will be waiting for UW, UM, BC and Clarkson to contact them. When they don't get that call, they'll pick the best of the rest 20 offers they have.

Not unlike other D1 sports, where everyone wants to become the next big star on a traditional powerhouse.

It might not have as much impact on Clarkson recruits, given that many of them are already on D-I rosters.

                    Re: New Recruiting Rules

From our Gopher booster club newsletter:

The proposal for most sports, including women's ice hockey, would allow communication – either from or to a coach – starting June 15 after the sophomore year of high school, and would allow visits beginning August 1 before the junior year of high school. National Letter of Intent signing would remain in November of a student's senior year of high school.

The recruiting proposals will become effective at the close of the Division I Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, May 1.

What if a player already has an offer from a college? Do they have to wait until June 15th sophomore to accept if they don't accept before May 1 of this year?

I would think accept while you still can before this kicks in, unless you believe that better offers will come later on, then you wait.

Gophers coach Brad Frost weighs in on the new recruiting rules:

College hockey coaches welcome new recruiting timeline
                            http://www.startribune.com/college-h...ine/509239612/

New rules for college hockey recruiting

Men: No contact between coaches and recruits until Jan. 1 of a recruit’s sophomore year. Under previous rules, recruits could initiate contact at any time. Verbal offers cannot be extended until Aug. 1 before a recruit’s junior year. Old rules allowed coaches to extend offers at any time.

Women: No contact — or verbal offers from coaches — until June 15 after a recruit’s sophomore year. It’s later than men’s because women’s college hockey doesn’t have major junior leagues for players.

                              Re: New Recruiting Rules

This an area where Frost and his staff have been disappointing. He talks a lot about character and their program "pillars" and yet he has taken more than his share of very young recruit commitments even though he says he thinks it's not the right thing to do. In the article he says the rule change is "healthy". This suggests he thinks the recruitment of, say, 8th graders is unhealthy yet he made sure to get a few in before the rule changed. He did the same thing last spring ahead of the rule re unofficial visits going into play. If you don't like the way something is being done, then you don't do it - even if it may disadvantage your program. That's character.

I realize WI and others have had early commitments as well. I'm just more peeved about Frost because I've heard him talk in the past about how he doesn't like the idea of teams recruiting so early. It's the hypocrisy that grates on me.
