Lines are out for tonight

Fossier-Pearson-Tralmaks
Robbins-Dohrety-Schmitty
Westerlund-Shea-Holesinsky
Perez-Quinlivan-Hock

Sirota-Michel
Butala-Keeper
Becker-Muehlbauer
Tiruaniemi

Swayman

Not sure how I feel about Smith being taken out, he had been playing really well in my opinion.

Maybe Smith next weekend will be ready.
Has Tiruanimi been dressing last 4 or 3 weeks?

That 4th line, jeesh. I thought Pieper played ok earlier this year. Hurt?

BU up 2-0 in the first, looking like Maine will need at least a point to avoid finishing in 6th at best.

Keeper/Michel pair having a terrible night so far. Both fell and let forwards go to the net and score. Bot took penalties. Michael's was a head hunter where he is done for the night.

Maine down 2-0 and will start the second killing off 4 and a half minutes of power play time for Umass.

Not a good start.

Well, I was semi-confident, but looks like Fishman was right. This has been a woodshed type of game.

The good news is Maine cannot finish 8th so they won't see UMA again. The bad news is BU won tonight, meaning Maine can finish no higher than 6th. A win or tie against BU or a loss or tie by BC will clinch 6th. If BC defeats Providence and Maine loses to BU, the Black Bears fall to 7th. Northeastern, Providence or Lowell can finish as high as second, and those teams plus BU can finish #3.

Cant watch this anymore.

Hats off to UMass they play very well, good chance they win hockey east tourney and ncaa. Carvell has complete mastery over that team.

I was hoping for a less-embarrassing outcome, but what we saw was an elite team demonstrating that Maine is nowhere near the NCAA's.

Same old, for 6 years now.

They got a thrashing tonight...no more to say. UMass is a way better team...player/coach wise.

Real question is howd that happen in 3 years when our guys had 6 and people are still saying “be patient” “it was so bad it takes time to build”

Its called having a coach that knows how to get players to play a system that works.

I was hoping Maine would show up or maybe they did? They are finishing where they belong, better than nothing but certainly not a tourney team.

Carvel has gotten past some of his history and is proving he is the whole package. Able to recruit talented kids that fit his system, motivates them, and makes them into a "team".
Cant do that by yelling and trying to intimidate the players into submission.

One or maybe two more years at least with Reds middle of the pack results, promises and excuses. Maybe there needs to be a change at the assistant level if Red isnt going anywhere anytime soon. Bring someone in who will likely take over the coach job in a couple years. Sorry but I cant see either Ben or Alfie being the next head coach, no offense meant but it could be good for them to make a move and get some further experience. But admittedly I dont know their capabilities, its hard to see past Reds results.

I suspect that Red would get to the tournament if he was coaching UMass, and I don't necessarily think that Carvel would win with Maine's roster.

I don't think it's about the X's and O's; I think it's about the talent. Red just can't seem to bring in enough for Maine to contend, and -after 6 years of futility- there's no reason to think that he ever will.

Doing it instead of dreaming it is what works...and NOT @ Maine now or in the present future for the next 2 years. SAD if .500 is good and along the way be patient when only winning 10-12 games for 3-4 years....sounds like the Gendron ERA.

From last season's post-mortem:

Incoming recruits are the toughest part of this analysis. Not only are recruits unknown commodities since they may never show up on campus, some may come in different years than anticipated and some may have trouble adjusting not only to the quicker game at Div I but also to life in general at a university. There is also the fact I do not see any of these kids perform in person, relying on statistics and second-hand accounts. In this case I have assembled opinions from people far more knowledgeable than I when it comes to recruits, including a scout, a former player, a current college coach and people in the media. The consensus is Maine's recruits are good, but do not measure up to recruits at rival schools like BC, BU or PC. Most disappointing, the incoming classes at UMass are rated higher than Maine's. The Black Bears are still above UNH, Vermont and Merrimack and should be about even with UConn.

No one picked UMass as #2 in the country and Hockey East champions, but them being ahead of Maine was predictable.

I stated on previous Maine threads that Carvel would have UMass out performing Maine when he was hired. Not patting myself on the back here.;) I did not anticipate he would have them ranked #2 in the country within 3 years. I thought a top 4 team in Hockey East and competing for a Hockey East title was certainly attainable. They have the facility, all they needed was a coach and a commitment from administration that he would have the financial resources he needed.

Its been obvious since about midway thru year 2 that this was nevee gonna work but I read hundreds of posts about how it was such a hole from the last guy and you cant build in a couple years. Every time a see a Lowell a PC or now UMass win in years 1-3 of their regimes it goes straight up my tail pipe. That could and should be us. Better to pull the cord until you find the right guy than hope against hope pizzing into the wind
