Union enters year three of the Josh Sciba era.

The Dutchwomen didn't win a single game three years ago under Claudia Barcomb. They won five games in Sciba's first year, including two in league action. In his second, they won seven including five in conference play.

The team is slowly making progress and seems to be inching closer to making the league playoffs for the first time ever. They missed by six points last year.

Union needed OT to beat Carleton in a preseason game on Sept. 22. The regular season started with two losses against a Merrimack team picked next-to-last in Hockey East. Union scored one combined goal in the two games.

The Dutchwomen will look for better at home this weekend against Lindenwood.

This year's Union team has just one senior in Arianna Kosakowski. The other five members of her recruiting class left the program by their sophomore year.

Tough start dropping a pair at Merrimack this weekend. Maybe Mack is better than they have been.

MC has the benefit of 11 seniors, all of whom have had substantial ice time during their three previous years, a factor that has enabled somewhat more selective recruiting in the past three years. Fresh off a win over Colgate, Penn State this weekend should provide a better test for MC.

Mack have three great forwards in Voight, Rae and Grant-Mentis, and they'll punish you for breakdowns. The top of Hockey East is thin, but the bottom is full of teams that are not easy outs.
