We have got to continue to block shots. Already 17 in just the first two periods.
We have got to take away time and space for 20 minutes.
I don't like how we play in the third period when we're ahead...
Our first goal is a bit of a fluke shot I think, but the other 2, beauties !

Let's get 2 more points against Dartmouth tonight, and we'll be in good shape for the end of the season. They did score 7 against RPI... not sure what that means, but 7 is a high number.
    Let's go Union !
    ECAC Regular season champion : 2010-11, 2011-12, 2013-14, 2016-17
    ECAC Tournament champion : 2012, 2013, 2014
    NCAA champion : 2014

That was an ugly win. Union, for the most part, didn't play nearly as well as they did on Friday. Dartmouth probably deserved a better fate tonight. Kupsky bailed Union out tonight.

Hopefully Scarfo is okay - I saw him go down, but was watching something else and didn't see what led to him going down. That was in the second period and he didn't return.

I don't know about the tiebreakers, but Union has 8 more points than 5th place Colgate with 8 possible points left on the table. If Union didn't clinch a first round bye tonight, they're right on the doorstep.

        Head to head
        Most league wins
        Record vs top 4

We are the only team with no ties so we are in great shape for most wins. .... Would win tiebreaker with Colgate (who has two ties- and can't catch us in wins even if they win out). Would most likely win Cornell tiebreaker too (again on wins) if we could beat them in last game and end up tied (Cornell would need to drop 2 more points to Brown, Yale and RPI---- and Union would need to win out). Would lose head to head to clarkson.

Here is how we were supposed to do this year:

            September 25 - 6th - Coaches Poll
            September 25 - 6th - Media Poll
            October 3 - "Bottom 4" - USCHO Season Preview
            October 10 - 10th - CHN

The October 10 CHN is below:

            Union Dutchmen
Head Coach: Rick Bennett, 7th year
            2016-17 Record: 25-10-3, 16-4-2 ECAC (t-1st)

Changes: The Dutchmen lost many key pieces from a team that won a share of the ECAC regular-season title last year. The biggest loss will be Mike Vecchione, who was tied for first in points and second in goals nationally. Vecchione was a key piece in both ends of the ice and his loss will be a massive one.

Spencer Foo left a year of eligibility on the table to turn pro and will also be a big departure; the junior was fourth in the country with 62 points and fifth in plus-minus. Defenseman Nick Desimone left a year early for the pros and Jeff Taylor graduated, so the defense also took a big hit. Alex Sakellaropoulos also graduated, which leaves a gaping hole between the pipes. The Dutchmen have already lost their first three games, which should indicate some of the growing pains they will face this season.

Union added nine that probably be asked to play big roles right away. The class includes a pair of NHL draft picks in Jack Adams (6th round, Red Wings) and Parker Foo (5th, Blackhawks). It also includes a goaltender, Darion Hanson, who led the BCHL in GAA (1.84) and save percentage (.929) last season.

Strength: The Dutchmen lost a ton on offense but they also return a good top six that was able to develop last season. Sebastian Vidmar and Brett Supinski will lead that group as the two of them combined for 77 points and 22 goals. Ryan Walker, Luc Brown and Ryan Scarfo should also join them in the forward ranks that should be able to score. The big question, is whether the depth will be there to provide a consistent charge.

“We are kind of hoping that a guy like Brett Supinski, Cole Maier or even Sebastian Vidmar (will make a jump),” Bennett said. “All three of them are juniors. We lost some guys, but it happens to every team and no one will feel sorry for you. It is just a great opportunity for those guys and many others.”

Weakness: Entering the season, Union goaltenders have a combined 20 games of college experience. Jake Kupsky, who the job will probably fall to early in the year, has struggled in limited time between the pipes. In nine appearances last season, Kupsky had a 3.98 GAA and a .878 save percentage. In the year prior, he had a 3.20 and .891 mark. One could assume he and Hanson will vie for time at some point, but both are unproven and inexperienced.

2017-18 Outlook: Union should drop off after its regular-season title last year, but just how much? The Dutchmen lost on a ton on both ends of the ice and its goaltending situation is questionable at best. There are no replacing players with the quality of Vecchione, Spencer Foo and Jeff Taylor. Bennett is a great coach and one should think that he would be able to right this ship, but the holes are as gaping as they have been in his tenure. Union still has the offense to finish close to a home-ice, top eight finish, but they finish just short.

            Prediction: 10th

That’s actually correct. Head to head is the first tiebreaker, league wins is second. Even if Colgate wins out and Union loses out, they split on h2h. Union would have 13 wins to Colgate’s 12.

We have a first round bye! Not bad for a team predicted to just fight for a home playoff series.

                Huge weekend for us.
Only Colgate can hypothetically catch us in points and according to our website, it would not make a difference.
Kudo's to Yale for slowing down Princeton.

Qpac is 3-1 in their last 4 averaging 3.5 gpg and giving up 1.5 gpg. During that stretch, they defeated Clasrson 4-1
                Last homestand for Qpac.
They are fighting for home ice - now in bottom 4 by 1 point.

We are 7 out of our last 8 and 8-3 since Jan 1

Interesting line changes against Dartmouth. Against Harvard we had our firepower spread over three lines and each line had a pair of snippers. Against Dartmouth, we stuffed all six of those shooters into two lines. We only blocked 11 shots.

Is scarfo ok? Once again when we need a goal, its guess who?

Morgan is listed at 5'11" and 205.

Kudos to Jake Kupsky. This one belongs to him.

Word has it he was bleeding as he went off the ice. We feared concussion, but hard to say. A friend of mine actually thought he ran into a teammate, but wasn’t 100% sure.

I’d like to know what happened to Greg Campbell in the third after he got hit and began to slowly skate back to the bench. I don’t recall seeing Rick Bennett that upset about anything.

Hopefully Scarfo is all right! He got hit by Forman right square in the chest when he wasn't expecting it after contact with the puck...it might have been a little late , maybe interference but it was far from dirty. I would think he might have had the wind knocked out of him. BG is one of the least penalized teams and plays straight up and not dirty!

Yes, least penalized in the ECAC and 59th least penalized in the country. We are 52nd least penalized.

Morgan should be ECAC rookie of the week. - 3 goals including a game winner
Jake could be ECAC goalie of the week. His save percentage numbers should be out of site. However, the Cornell goalie got two shutouts and two wins !!!! I saw parts of Clarkson vs Cornell - two great goalies.

Remember, this is the ECAC and anything can and usually does happen.

From a 0-5 start to a first round bye in the ECAC tournament, the Dutchmen are looking impressive. If they can keep all the troops healthy during the stretch run, another title is not improbable.
