The referees were an embarrassment to the conference tonight. I can't believe they called a penalty on tech for roughing the goalie when the only reason he skated into the goalie was because a Maverick had a stick round him and gave him a little push causing him to lose control. It should have been a penalty the other way. Then Tech gets pushed into the net by a Maverick and is called for delay of game. EPIC fail on the part of the refs! They handed the game to the Mavericks on a silver platter.

Our guys worked very hard. Happy with effort for first 55 mins. Will address any discipline issues.
We played a good game. The way it ended is a real sour taste. Will deal with league however we need to.
We juggled our lines a bit and got dividends. Felt confident when any line on the ice.
There is a lot that should be dealt with with the league, that was some of the worst reffing I have ever seen.

Exactly, the refs gave it to us hard and dry.

I hate to be the guys to ***** about reffing and say it's why you lost etc. but sometimes it's the truth and in this case it absolutely is.

Not to mention scoring on the delayed penalty and not getting what should have been a 5 on 3. What a joke.

The NCAA rule book seems to make an exception with regard to delayed penalties when a goal is scored on a team serving a major penalty. I thought it applied in this case at first, but now looking at the verbiage, it seems to only apply when the team is already serving 2 major penalties. Here is the rule text (rule 20 under Major penalties).
When two players from the same team each are serving major penalties, and
the opponent scores during a delayed minor penalty against a third player,
the minor penalty will not be served. Both major penalties must be served in
            their entirety.

So...yeah...I guess the refs did get that call wrong too.

The NCAA rule book indicates that the delayed penalty to Team A doesn't have to be served when team B scores when a Major Penalty is already in effect against Team A (which it was, MSU had a 5 minute major). If MSU had been serving an existing minor penalty (instead of a major) at the time tech scored, then MSU would also have had to serve the new delayed penalty.
I think the section you are referring to actually says when two major penalties are being served, which would make sense. It's like section 20.1 or something of the rules.

You're right. I double checked it...and edited my post. The refs are paid to know the rules...they should know this stuff. So frustrating.

Ref's left a lot to be desired in BG tonight as well. Wasn't the reason we lost, though. Must be a league trend.

See: last Sat's game between UND-MN. Major was called (and UND scored 3 goals, IIRC, on that PP) on a hit that wasn't a 5er, and not only that, a very similar hit by UND went uncalled the night before.

Referees do film work, too, as does the league. Brennan Saulnier got suspended by the league last season for a hit that wasn't even whistled. If stuff gets missed, the league will make sure that the referees look for it the next night.

Nothing has happened in relation to that hit. BTW, the 5er that was called was a penalty (2 minute, no question). Sounds like this series had the same issues.

Hopefully Tech can put this one in the rear view mirror quickly as two big weekends of hockey ahead.
The team played well this weekend, but the coverage in front of Packy did not tie up the Mavericks. Very disappointed the refs got involved, would have liked to see the two teams decide it themselves. Still exciting, we played as well against a good team like Mankato, but Tech deserved more this weekend.

The refs sucked last night. Gnash our teeth, stomp our feet, complain to the league office. They will say 'of course you are right... so sorry.. better luck next time".. in the end no recourse.

The refs aside, it is hard to win games when you are outshot 39-19. Tech went 1-6 on the PP. Those 6 PPs only generated 5 shots on goal. Once again Tech grabs a lead only to see it disappear. Once again Tech takes a lead into the third period only to come out flat and let the Mavs, who came out in the third like a team that wanted the win, tie it up at even strength.. different day familiar pattern that extends back to last season.

Another troubling trend is that the words individualistic and selfish have started to creep into the vocabulary describing play. Last Saturday against UAH from the second period on Tech played rather selfish, gonna do it all myself. Coach Joe addressed it during his Monday show. He felt the PP was got individualistic. Unfortunately it was more than just the PP. Dirk during Friday's game against the Mavs used the word individualistic and again last night. Coach Joe used the word selfish after the game. One of the Assistants alluded to selfish play in one of the games against LSSU. It's a VERY troubling trend that hopefully is cured soon,

                            • Obviously i was glad with the win but yes the refs definitely played their part in it. There were calls both sides that were just awful, but tech got the brunt of it in the 3rd. The delay of game penalty in game speed looked legit but the replay showed what it was and your goalie interference should have been a no call either way. It was a hockey play. It happens. Sucks this is our only meeting til the playoffs. See you then.

It's a cop out to blame the refs for this loss. Blaming the refs is just a way not to take responsibility. Sure they might have had an effect but in reality, we put ourselves in the position where the ref could call that. So even if the ref did a lousy job we are still to blame.
What we need to do is be more disciplined. (This happens way too often.) and we have to be better in the third especially. Everyone needs to be going over to the mirror and taking a real hard look.

It's a tough loss no doubt and frustrating. We have to be better. A win in mankato would have made a world of difference for us down the line.
