      ECAC:
Selected to finish seventh in the preseason coaches’ poll and eighth in the preseason media poll, Rick Bennett guided Union to a share of the ECAC Hockey regular-season title, capturing the program’s fourth Cleary Cup. In doing so he earned his second Tim Taylor Coach of the Year Award.

The coaching staff is going to have to pull another one "out of the hat" because we are losing:

      53% of our scoring
Two AHCA (CHN and USCHO) All-Americans
      Four ECAC All-Conference players
      Our Two best defensemen
      Our All-Conference Goalie

The bottom half of the ECAC for sure.

We are indeed loosing our top scoring contributors, but I look forward to seeing all the other players step up, and seeing what kind of lines and synergies the coaching staff can create.

Re: Union College: 2017 off-season thread

Next year's senior class will be without Foo and DeSimone who will have both left for the pro's. In addition to their offensive firepower, their defensive skills will be missed as well. DeSimone led the team in blocked shots (59) and Foo was third (40).

That leaves 4 returning as seniors. Scarfo (F) and Brassard (D) are returning starters.

Connor Light (D) only appeared in 6 games last year (-1). As a freshman, he appeared in 24 and as a sophomore, he appeared in 34. Last year the team was 6-0 in the games he played. He was 6-12 in the penalty department and had 5 blocked shots. All academic. We could really use his 6'5" frame next year to help shore up the D.

Tyler Hynes (F), a tough defensive minded forward, only played in 4 games last year. He saw 17 games as a freshmen and 18 as a sophomore. He only saw 4 games last year (+1), had one blocked shot and was 1-2 in the penalty department. The Dutchmen were 2-1-1 when he was in there.

Here is hoping Connor and Tyler make major contributions to the team next year. We will need it.

The pessimist has spoken... he sayeth "The bottom half of the ECAC for sure."
I'd like to think more optimistically. -- maybe 2nd or third .. everyone lost players
                      at the beginning of this season everyone was worried (check back in the thread) because;
they didn't score much the year before - where were our goals going to come from
Our goalie was erratic, maybe time for the sophs
Our defense was going to need to play freshmen ..
Every year - every team loses players - some more than others - it's the nature of college sports
Losing the 2 Juniors some might say unexpectedly, while I would say not so much... They were good and earned it

But while we will have limited experienced Seniors - we will have a really strong Junior and Sophomore presence
to gather up these new Freshmen and get the job done.. They all played a bunch this year and that will provide the experience
to begin next year with a solid base and the ability to merge in the freshmen once again ...
Getting a goalie up to speed needs to be job #1, followed by getting the defense cohesive is a close 2nd.
Offensively - we will miss the guys who left but have a solid foundation on which to continue...
I think, although they won't be as flashy as Vech and Foo they will get the job done...
                      Have faith Union Nation...

Mike Hardman was selected by Des Moines and Lucas Breault was selected by Sioux Falls, both in the 2nd round. Blake Hayward was taken in the 6th round by Lincoln.

Great to see us playing BU again. The last three have been fantastic matches. Lots of UC Alumni in Boston and always a great turnout. Agganis is a great venue.
