Just looked at the roster again (which outs me as not paying attention, despite being a Bruins fan for over 40 years). Absolute glut at center, but JFK would likely be an upgrade over Acciari, Vatrano and Moore.

I guess the Bruins want a bottom six center who can win face-offs (Spooner at 37% and often his wings take the draws) but I agree burning a year of his ELC to be a face-off specialist seems drastic. I could also see them moving Krejci this summer.

Maybe it was a bit of bad interpretation by the DFP, but they wrote that he expected them all back.

Maybe they told him they were coming back... And things changed.

Now I am ticked off. Sweeney is on my shiite list and will only come off if JFK spends the vast majority of next season with Boston.

I really viewed JFK as being the captain, the glue, the everything for next season.

I wonder if they didn't want to commit to putting a 19 year old defenseman into a game when every point counts trying to make the playoff. It's hard to sit a defenseman all game. It's much easier to do so with a forward. Not saying JFK won't see some shifts, but if they realize he isn't ready after one shift, they can work around him the rest of the game.

Very well could be all indications were the Bruins wouldn't let JFK burn an ELC year this year and give him a roster spot in the NHL immediately. Sweeney comes in with a change of heart, gives him the opportunity to play in the pros now, burn an ELC year, and away he goes - good negotiating.

Well, I wish these guys nothing but the best. They're very talented players, I enjoyed watching them play. At the same time, they won no championships while playing at BU. Perhaps the players who return, and the incoming players, will win championships.

They are, without question. I have an old (borrowed) set from back in the day, and a couple of years ago I compared them to what's being used nowadays. Regardless of what the rules said then (and now), the difference is obvious and noticeable. Maybe they have just gotten better at finessing how to keep the pad sizes in compliance? Your eyes are just fine, J.D.

Yeah, I am not particularly thrilled with this. Especially since JFK told them no the first time. He is not going to contribute anything of note to the Bruins this season nor next season.

I can't imagine Greenway staying now. What a disappointment.

Makes you wonder what changed that prompted JFK to sign, especially given very recent indications that he was likely returning. Agreed that Greenway - despite being physically ready but needing more development in other parts of his game - will likely follow suit.

Quinn's recruiting took into consideration BU could have 5 early departures following this season. I think the staff was prepared, but was hopeful that some of the players - IMO, JFK in particular - would return.

Next year's team will have the necessary # of bodies, but the deficiencies may be a lack of secondary (or even primary) scoring and inexperience (again).

It sounds to me like JFK is a very shrewd negotiator. He forced the Bruins into burning a year off his entry level deal, which a lot of other players don't get.
