Hearing rumors that Wilkes University backed out on starting an NCAA program for 2017/2018. Is this true?

From what I understand, the new programs for the 2017/2018 season are as follows:

    - Bryn Athyn
    - King's College
    - Chatham University
    - Trine University

I know Trine will be a full member of the NCHA for the 2017/2018 season, but what do the other three school's plan on doing for next season? Will they be full members of conferences right away? If so which ones?

    Re: 2017/2018 New Programs

King's and Chatham will be playing in the UCHC (the new conference being formed by the current members of the ECAC-W). The announcement of the UCHC also mentioned that Wilkes will play a partial schedule in 2017-18 before becoming a full member in 2018-19.

I would be shocked if Bryn Athyn didn't become the 12th member of the UCHC.

Irony of ironies. Forever, the ECAC/W hadn't been able to muster the elusive 7th school, and viola ... in two years, the conference will now have almost too many members.

Considering there certainly isn't enough prime talent to field 70+ competitive teams, must be some money to be made somewhere in D3 hockey.

Hockey is a sport with large rosters. More players = more students = more tuition.

Wilkes is in fact delaying the start of the men's program until 2018-19.

According to this http://www.gowilkesu.com/news/2016/1...x?path=mhockey the delay is just with the men's team. So, I'm to assume the women's team is on course to debut next year?

Which is why a large number of DIII schools added football in the last few years.

I think it's actually 110, but yes. And as has been pointed put, this why schools are adding football. I know Anna Maria added football mostly to increase male enrollment.

Started the season with 136 and I think by season's end it was down to 115-120.

136.......well makes sense as far as enrollment goes.....Just wonder if the coach has enough time to evaluate the talent with 136 players, and that must be 1 big lockeroom
