Fascinating that on the USA roster 17/6 western commits vs eastern commits and on the Canadian roster it's 6/12 western vs eastern commits. Only 7 schools have both US and Canadian players committed to them.

FWIW...

NHL Draft eligibility (Not the same as being college eligible with accelerated studies so she theoretically would attend College first before the NHL or go the Canadian Major Junior route )

Eligibility: Any North American player who turns 18 by September 15 and does not turn 20 by Decemeber 31 is eligible for the draft. Any non-North American player can be drafted at any age if they are at least 18 by September 15. If a player is 18, they must declare themselves eligible, but if a player turns 19 by September 15th, they are automatically eligible for selection in the draft.

Birth date of 01-21-2001 would not be eligible for the 2018 NHL draft.

Might be more to do with location. The majority of female hockey players in Canada are from Ontario. If you have ever flown in Canada you know how expensive it can be so I am sure driving distance is taken into account by parents. I have noticed that only top Ontario girls head to western teams, mainly U18 players. Western Canada girls stay in the west.

Prediction: US wins again for the third straight year. Way too many questionable picks on Canada yet again. Part of it is due to regional representation making sure all provinces are covered.
