Exactly the same observation regarding Hellebuyck's style in comparison to Wall that a few others noted at the game last night. We were very impressed with Wall.

Wall seems to be a very sound goalie in positioning. Most of the saves he made where UMD was in close, had a two-on-one, or a cross ice pass he was in position where he didn't have to flail around trying to make a highlight save. He had a couple of rebounds that he probably would have liked to contain a little more, but overall, he should get the nod at least on Friday in Colorado Springs.

Side note... what the hell was Kapla doing at the end of their PP in the 2nd that led to either a two on one or a partial breakaway? It was completely baffling.

No idea.....he had a very tough night. He made several questionable plays.

Lowell Sun recap of last night's game HERE. And as we suspected would happen, the play on Wall's name happens right out the gate.

Oh, and BTW, I stand corrected. Smith did not guide the puck into the net by swiping at it. It was actually redirected by the UMD player (#3) that was sprawled on the ice in front of the net. If it had not been redirected, Smith's shot would have gone wide.
mr les says no. The ref behind the net has the job of indicating it went past the goal line. If the net is off, penalty called, etc then those things are then considered. If there is a penalty at same time they conference and the penalty called overrides goal if called on offending side.

My biggest argument with the call is that the ref at center ice has absolutely no idea when the puck crossed the line in relation to the timing of the "penalty." To just say, I have a penalty and not be able to review which occurred first in unfathomable, and it sounds like it was reviewable.

The rule is you cannot video review goalie interference. Whether the rule is stupid seems an easy question but it is the rule. (and cost us the game)

The lack of energy both nights in the third period really bothered me. The only thing I could think of was that this was the opening weekend for Lowell, (while UMD had already played a couple of games), so the legs just weren't there? That's really my hope, because being outshot 49-16 the two nights combined after the second period is just embarrassing.

That's because this piece is a grab bag of sorts with other items and topics as well including a mention of Eichel near the end. There's also a pic of Goransson too in his part of the piece.
