Per Ted Ryan, Santaguida is day to day and won't play this weekend. Bad timing to get hurt, Santa...

Latest arena proposal would revamp and keep Gutterson while replacing Patrick.

      Renderings of Gutt revamp: https://twitter.com/eadanforth/statu...63707983130625

Per Danforth, it would include new entrance, support spaces, new seating, and would still seat around 4K...combined with new basketball gym would cost around $80M & would stay on campus

Wow, I love the Gutt, but hate this idea. This would help the hockey program only marginally, if at all, and would delay the building of a new hockey facility for another 20-25 years.

On a brighter note, the renderings for the new basketball gym look absolutely stunning.

Oh well, the best way to improve the program is to play better hockey. We have a chance to do that this weekend, but need the goalie and defense to show up. Go Cats!

This has to be the dumbest idea floated yet. They will not get a dime from me for this ridiculous waste of money. South Burlington still wants the arena... it would cost less and seat more.

I kinda like the proposal. As old as the Gutt is, it's a unique atmosphere and given we don't sell out every night anyways we don't really need the extra seating. All it really needs is an updated sound system and a real jumbotron and I think it would be more than fine. Throw in weight room and locker room facility renovations (which I think are included in the project) and we should actually be in a decent place.

It also gets basketball out of Patrick which is a massive plus.

I will say my favorite proposal was the Memorial Auditorium block one where they would put a multipurpose basketball and hockey arena downtown a block from Church St but it looks like that one is off the table.

Agree 100%. I would have thought the proposal would have been the exact opposite. Figure out how to put in seats for the avg attendance (1800?)basketball vs double that for Hockey for a new arena.

With regard to renovating The Gut:
                    If it includes new seating
                    If it includes video screens
If it includes walk-around on south side
                    If fan facilities are upgraded,
Then it might be the most realistic route. For recruiting purposes, what really needs to be upgraded are the lockerrooms and ancillary facilities; strength & conditioning area; athletic training; video room and equipment for coaches and teams, etc. The Gut itself can still be a great place to play, a fun atmosphere, but everything else is in worse shape from players perspective. Ice is ice and Gutterson ice has generally been good.
A 3200 seat basketball arena might seem large but it's also a place for other activities, including, I would assume, graduation, concerts, etc.
One report has $40 million already pledged with work set to start in 2019.
The Burlington and South Burlington projects are interesting but still leaves the question of control of those facilities open. UVM this way would have full control.
Certain to be questions and glitches, but more detail really needed before deciding if going this way is smart or lost money. At least, if $40 Mil figure correct, they're halfway there (pending Board approval Saturday), which is a heck of a lot father than they've ever gone before.

Finally recovered my password nothing like forgetting it but not many topics i felt compelled to post until now.

some of you guys are hilarious with the hate on these new plans - the south burlington and memorial projects are dead and have been for a while anyone with half a mind could read that in all the reports. the arena is never coming and this is and will be the best bet to get something modern there is not setting it back this is it - if you wanted it not to be it should have given your millions when they said 8k then 5k all of which was completely unrealistic in the first place. it is giving you chairback seats a new concourse and a video board while giving the players better facilities.
Also basketball average 2300 a game and the new one would be 3200, which is what they have right now not like hockey is selling out I'm sure you all saw the "no wait list" for season tickets they are sending out to people - no need to add more when you can't even get people in when the team is decent and better to have a demand over too much
And for clarity the total cost of project is $80 mil that includes the building of the new basketball facility, Gutterson renovations, and a full transition of current Patrick space into the fitness facility. Previous plan called for entire project previously was $200mil and 80mil for the facility alone. This plan is more feasable and gets more done for less.
But none of it matters because actually that 40 mil in money secured is not the number I do not believe. This story says only $2.1 mil is secured: http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/s...nors/79091506/

Frankly blame Corran for this because if he had put down the pipe they could have propose this plan long time ago and possibly had real momentum and maybe even be close.

Also woof on this game so far.

I just got back from Pack the Gut (new record!! kinda cancels out the bottle job)...walk in and Ham blasts home the tying goal.

                        Whee.

I still think a renovation of the Gut could work if they are willing to put the money in to really make it a quality faculity long term. Let's face it this program is never going to need a 5000+ rink. That's not a knock on the program. Agganis, Whittemore are both 1000 seats bigger than they need to be.

Honestly if you gave me a tie before the game i'd take it. The way that tie came about irks me though.

                            • Yeah. Once again the cats get out goaltended. Give this team average goaltending around .915 save % (not .850 save %) and they are top 4 HE and high 3 seed NCAA. With current goaltending will be 7th place HE and bubble NCAA team

Love this team even if they give up some soft goals. After 11 years of no offense teams this is so refreshing. Tough tie tonight as outside of some quirky breakaways they completely out player ND. Lekkas is fine. I am not sure where all this bs is coming from after he has saved the team in a number of games. This team is better than the last team that went to the final four.
