Re: Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

You forgot NoDak in your list. (Edit: Not anymore)

I don't think a NCHC-free world is too disastrous. The NCHC teams, other than maybe WMU and Miami, would be about in the same boat as they are now, albeit with UAA still hanging around. The non-Nacho leftovers, assuming UAA still joins somebody, would probably be in as ideal of a situation as they're likely to have (until the MACHC forms, of course).

I suppose the CCHA would still be in a rough-ish spot, having lost more to the B1G than the old WCHA did.

If you want to be a BADGER, just come along with me

    BRING BACK PAT RICHTER!!!

At his graduation ceremony from the U of Minnesota, my cousin got a keychain. When asked what UW gave her for graduation, my sister said, "A degree from a University that matters."

Canned music is a pathetic waste of your time.

Not sure if it will make it much easier for MSU to make the tournament...but I doubt it will hurt them. GPL (a Gopher fan website) is full of posts saying they think its actually a bad move for MSU. Yeah, posters there are often off in la la land. This would be a very good move for MSU in many ways. And for BSU, it won't really hurt them...only a minor ego impact.

Men's Hockey is THE revenue sport at BSU. They need to have fannies (lots of fannies) in the seats at Sanford to support the D2 sports and womens hockey.

NoDak (sellout) is not coming this year. Having another in state rival drop off into the tenuous non conference land is not good for the bottom line.

This will hurt BSU, and leave them once again as the lone Minnesota team left out of "the conference". I still believe that BSU and MSU-M would be good fits for the NCHC for geography reasons and competitive reasons. It would be nice to be able to see all the MN teams come to Duluth and play for conference points and bring their fans with them. Watching WMU, Miami, CC and potentially ASU come with 3 fans is getting old already.

The letter starts: "With a request for your confidentiality..." and then follows the template the college hockey world has come to know as "Why Western?" or here are 20 really obvious facts about our team you already know, but we're going to remind you in writing so we seem super impressive on paper.

                  CliffsNotes version of the letter:

                  Hi NCHC -
Hope all is well with you. Just wanted to drop you a note with a couple really obvious, but fun facts about Purple Cow hockey that we cut and pasted into this letter from Wikipedia. We're so awesome. We won a lot of games since you all left us behind in the WCHA. We fixed up our rink. We have a nice hotel in town. We know how to travel by bus and planes so we can attend road games. We gave our coach a new contract. So much more to tell you so drop us a line when you have a minute. Please, please pick us. Please don't make us beg like St Cloud, but if we have to we will because we're just too good to stay in the WCHA any longer.
PS - We're "besties" with ASU and we don't even care that we'll have to go play road games in a rink that seats 700 fans.

                    You forgot the P.S..

P.S. Plus, it's fun to watch Michigan Tech - especially its fans - act all indignant and go off crying into the woods while acting superior for "choosing" to stay in this money pit league that is the current WCHA.

                    --------------------------

Everybody knows why they're making the move, and it's obvious why all the prior teams to join the conference made their moves, too. The writing was on the wall then, just as it is now, that the NCHC was a better platform for keeping athletic budgets either solvent or from going even deeper into the red.

You need to come to terms with the fact that MTU's administration hamstrung itself by becoming complacent with its subpar hockey teams over the course of 20-25 years, that putting subpar hockey teams on the ice caused attendance to drop for other schools to the point where MTU just became a burden on the old WCHA. When given the opportunity to make a move, why wouldn't the other schools drop MTU from their league schedule if they could?

IMHO, big mistake by MN State omitting a reminder about Mettlers. Might be holding in reserve to close the deal.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

That is so weird. I must have missed all the memos Tech has sent out over the years bemoaning how much money they were/are losing by playing in the WCHA. If you could just post a couple of those here we would appreciate it.

I guess on behalf of the WCHA's member teams I will apologize that the NCHC only has fair weather fans who can only be troubled to show up to a game when they like the name on the front of the other team's jerseys, rather than just showing up to support their own team regardless of who they play. Sorry you were "burdened" with playing Tech over the years but by all means enjoy playing ASU. I'm sure your rink will be packed when they come to town and the revenue their 700 seat rink will generate should really put the NCHC in the black.

PPS - Plus, it's fun to watch the NCHC - especially its fans - beat their chests and proclaim the superior qualities and financial windfall of their conference from the top of their gold filled coffers as they watch all their bridges to the rest of college hockey go up in flames. It's not like you can rebuild them because the golden goose UND only has one tree. Well, enjoy playing hockey on the Island of Like-Minded Hockey Elitists. Anyone with their eyes on the big pictures realizes that the NCHC needs college hockey as a whole more than college hockey needs the NCHC. When you step on everyone's toes as you climb, don't count on them to be there to catch you when you fall...
