Re: Union College: 2016-2017
Looking forward to the final stretch run for Union. Some really tough games ahead but I think this team will be up for the challenge. This group has proven to be very resilient they have had a very good season now to finish it up with a top four finish. Would love to see them bring the Cleary Cup back to Messa but a bye / home ice would be terrific.
One game at a time......Go U !

Re: Union College: 2016-2017
Cornell is a "heavy" team in their size and how they play. We have not always done well against heavy teams. Cornell is the fourth tallest and forth heaviest team in DI. We are giving away about 10 lbs per man.
The Big Red led Dartmouth 2-0 after the first period on Saturday, but the Big Green scored four unanswered goals on its way to a 4-2 win at Lynah Rink.
It was the first time since Nov. 7, 2015, that the Big Red had lost a game in which it held a two-goal lead. It was also the second straight game that Cornell relinquished an early lead. It led Harvard 1-0 heading into the third period of Friday’s game before the Crimson rallied for a 4-1 win.
Read more: http://www.uscho.com/2017/02/01/corn...#ixzz4XZy0Ltyi It also lead Clarkson 3-1 before being tied 3-3.
In the seven games since the beginning of the new year, Cornell has scored a total of 2 goals in total in the third period !!! In the first five of those games, they completely shut out their opponent in the third period. Leading up to Harvard/Dartmouth (18 games) Cornel has given up a total of 5 goals in period 3 in all of these 18 games, and never more than 1. Against Harvard, they gave up 4 and against Dartmouth they gave up 3 in the third period.
IMO Cornell is taking risks on offense to boost their scoring in the hopes of getting leads they can sit on and protect and protect in period 3. The last few minutes may determine the outcome of todays game.Last edited by Dutchman; 02-03-2017, 06:36 AM.DUTCHMEN HOCKEY

Re: Union College: 2016-2017
Lost in the heartbreaking last second loss in Canton and "hit-gate" kerfuffle is that Vecks is now tied with Carr as U's all-time leading scorer (D-1)! Would be nice to see him set a new mark this weekend in front of the home fans. Litmus test game tonight with the Big Red. Getting out in front is always a good idea as it makes Cornell maybe take a few more chances offensively than they would normally want to, which is not there game. Will need a big game from Sak as it is guaranteed will be traffic in front of him and lots of screened shots. Should be a great atmosphere at the Messa.. Goooooo U!!!Last edited by ADK11; 02-03-2017, 10:43 AM.UNIONNY HOCKEY - Not in Kentucky anymore..

Re: Union College: 2016-2017
A tough loss to a very good Cornell team
Congrats Vech on surpassing Dan Carr as Union's all time leading scorer. An awesome achievement ,
I believe Carr still holds the post season scoring title hopefully Vech can make a run at that mark as well.
The team needs to bounce back and play a great 60 minutes tonight vs Colgate.
Go U !

Re: Union College: 2016-2017
Congrats to Cornell for a nice win.
I hope the team learned 2 things:
- your goalie is not going to be able to save the day every time
- if you don't show up for the full 60 minutes, you will not win a game
I was VERY disappointed in the first period. It was a complete breakdown of the systems in place and of what the team had been doing on the ice for the whole year. WT*? Kuddos to a very solid Cornell team for disrupting us that way and capitalizing on it.
Hope the whole team shows up tonight and gets things back in gear. We NEED those points.Last edited by UFan; 02-04-2017, 07:44 AM.Let's go Union !

Re: Union College: 2016-2017
The breakdowns in the first period were tough to watch, but the team was able to come back in shots and goals as it looked like Cornell had expended a great deal of energy in the opening minutes. Was disappointing to see Union take multiple penalties with under 5 minutes left in the game, including one penalty in the offensive zone away from the puck. I suppose we will continue to hope that they will play a full game and reduce poor timed penalties though it's getting later and later in the year.
On a more positive note, this team is 3-4-1 on the season against teams currently ranked in the pairwise top 16 and, I believe, can win any game. Here's to a great night tonight and hoping for a top four finish. Go U!Let's Go Union!!
