  • Bentley University Hockey 2016-2017: The (Max) French Revolution

The 2015-2016 Bentley Falcon’s season was filled with epic highs (Sweeping NU… Transitive Hockey East Champs!) and the lowest of lows (injury after injury… after injury....... after injury). One thing we can all agree on is despite everything, this team played with a lot of heart right up to the final series. We lost some great seniors to graduation and it will be interesting to follow them as they take the next step post-graduation.

On the ice, I for one think we have a ton to be excited about this season. First and foremost is the namesake of this thread… Senior Max French. Frenchy is one of the most dynamic players in Bentley history and wears his heart on his sleeve every single night. Injury briefly marred an otherwise spectacular season. His .719 goals per game and 1.469 points for game were good for 5th and 4th in the nation respectively. With a returning cast that includes Kyle Schmidt, Tanner Jago and Jayson Argue the Falcons have a sturdy foundation to build on.

That brings us to the new faces in Waltham (Watertown? ) this year. It will be extremely exciting to see how this year’s recruits pan out when they hit the ice this fall. Led by Jonathan Desbiens out of West Kelowna (home of Bentley greats Max French and Alex Grieve). Desbiens leads the league and broke several single-season records with 83 points in 58 games. Should be an excellent boost to the Falcons scoring. Another scoring threat joining the boys will be Ryner Gorowsky out of Fairbanks in the NAHL. The RW has an equally impressive 83 points in 59 games. Those two along with Jacob Kauppilaa and Dean Balsamo will hopefully be more than enough to replace Andrew Gladiuk, Derek Bacon, Tyler Krause and Michael Reardon. In the defensive pipeline we have Brett Orr (Portage Terriers, MJHL - 42 pts in 52 games) and Tanner Salsberry (NJ Hitmen, USPHL Premier – 28 pts in 43 games). Replacing tendy Gabe Antoini is Aiden Pelino who is in the midst of leading Chilliwack to the BCHL title game (where they could face Desbiens’ Warriors) All in all, the incoming freshmen give us fans quite a bit to get excited about!

With a new season we must address the status of Falcons in the greater college hockey. “If you build it, they will come” still holds true two years later. We’re closer than we ever have been to leaving the JAR for good and building a state of the art on-campus arena. The architectural firm has been hired, renderings and blueprints have been made. This season should be the final push. As seniors, you can be sure the Top Shelf will be relentless in our work to see the past 3 years hard work come to fruition. Students, alumni, faculty and fans will all be integral to getting this over the hump and helping Bentley take the next step. The next step might present itself a lot sooner than anticipated. With ND leaving hockey east… there’s bound to be an opening somewhere. Whether that’s Hockey East, the ECAC or some unforeseen opportunity brought about by a major shake-up… the stakes for Bentley have never been higher.

Which is why a "revolution" is necessary this year. The last 3 seasons have seen extraordinary progress. It’s time to take the next step. With “Mr. Everything” Max French, Jason “Stonewall” Argue and an ensemble made up of exceptional talent, both new and old… this is the season for the Bentley Falcons to take the next step, both on the ice and off it.

    Defense: Brassard (R) Donners (R) Buchanan (R) Chugg (R) Jago (L) Solovyev (L) Orr (L) Salsberry (R)
    Forwards: Desbiens (LW) Balsamo (F - shoots L) Gorowsky (RW) Kauppila (LW) Ahlgren (F - shoots L) Callin (C -shoots R) Depourcq (F -shoots R) Deresky (F -shoots R) Dumonceaux (F -shoots R) French (RW/C -shoots R) Kucerovy (F -shoots R) McDonald (F -shoots R) McMurphy (RW) Schimdt (F -shoots R) Sieckhaus (F -shoots L) Suter (F -shoots L)

Also, as of this morning we have another commitment; D-Man Connor Brassard, Captain and Teammate of Tanner Salsberry on the New Jersey Hitmen of the USPHL. Looks like a solid player, putting up solid numbers as well as 2 championships with the Hitmen in the past 2 years.

Also, for those not on campus... here is a link to a recent edition of Bentley's student newspaper focusing nearly entirely on the proposed new rink. Included on the front page is a rendering for a sneak peak at what this arena might look like. We've seen the actual blueprints and we can assure you... it looks even more amazing than that rendering. https://issuu.com/bentleyvanguardonl...ll_newspaper/1

Great update. I plagiarized it onto to arena thread for a broader audience. Thanks for posting!

Great intro to our new thread, TTS. Fingers crossed on the Bentley BOT inking the deal soon for the on-campus rink (aka events center).

The West Kelowna Warriors knocked off Jayson Argue's old squad The Nanaimo Clippers to advance to the BCHL Championship vs the Chilliwack Chiefs last night. Which means we've got a win-win title game for Bentley. From West Kelowna we've got Desbiens, Mannear and Rutigliano (the latter two for 2017-2018). And from Chilliwack we've got their last line of defense Aidan Pelino. Should be fun to watch!

Will also post in the rink thread... but the herald with a vague update. At the very least, nice to see some recognition besides what we've heard behind closed doors. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/c...w_hockey_arena

I would be surprised if we get any return games with Northeastern. :-)

This article about the West-K Warriors playoff run from today still claims Desbiens is committed to Bentley; http://globalnews.ca/news/2642855/we...till-in-fight/

Still haven't heard any solid evidence against it other than forum speculation.

Late night... There are several quality kids looking at the program and the rink will get kids in top leagues looking. It already has a great academic reputation but the rink turned kids away. The buzz now is that they want to check it out. They have had good success out of conference and if rink is as good as it looks, they would be good fit for Hockey East in a few years. Top 3 business undergrad schools in country

                              Opinions vary
It is considered a top undergrad business school
Many don't have an undergrad business school

It is one of the top ones, them and Michigan and few others
