Yep...I (and the kids) was rooting for the Blues and Elliott, but the Blues just didn't have the drive to keep up with the Sharks. I found myself switching over during the game last night...Pavs is the man. (Wish the geography was different and we could have had a Pavs Elliott final!)

That is basically the predicament that I found myself in. With no strong allegiance to any NHL team, I just cheer for guys that used to wear the Cardinal and White. (Red and White if you prefer)

We're in the same boat. I typically root for former UW goalies more than the F/D, so as of last night we were rooting for Els pretty hard, but Pavs is a WI native, which also adds extra juice to our allegiance to him. So in a potential Pens/Sharks matchup, it's Sharks all the way.

So I probably posted this in one of these threads 6 years ago when it was originally written, but it showed up my my FB "memories" yesterday, and it was fun re-reading it. Special interest to me is that Mosinee was mentioned in the WSJ article.

So funny to read "Mr. Pavelski". Didn't know Dan Plante ended up being an sports agent, pretty cool. Also cool are Plante's 57 points and 142 penalty minutes as a jr @ WI. I'm sure some of those minutes were earned pummeling rodents.

I believe they are trying to accelerate the remainder of the 4-year scheduling agreement.

I think we'll get one more @ Green Bay series and then it will be done.

You're right on. Both teams had an available weekend in November so Mike asked if NMU would play in Madison and then move the final series up to Green Bay next year,

#Badgers coach Tony Granato confirmed that Fs Adam Rockwood, Alex Shuchuk, Zac Keryluk, Tanner Barnes, G Gabe Grunwald won't return to team.

I think it's pretty clear that whether physical or personal, something was wrong with Rocky's game most of the year. He showed the talent his Freshman year but it just didn't materialize for whatever reason this last year.

Thanks to all these guys for their hard work and contributions through a couple of tough years. Always Badgers.

Even with it being an off year, he was 7th on the team in points last year. That's not nothing. Quite a suprise.

Also to see that this is basically the Jurusik show, and Grunwald officially out.

This does balance out the classes for forwards, as we lose one Jr and three So, and puts us at (I think):

3 Sr
6 Jr
5 So
3 Fr

I'm not surprised. Rockwood had a top 9 opportunity the last couple seasons and didn't produce enough when you have Fredric, Zimmer, Labosky, and Baker (?) all coming to compete for top 9 roles. Amazingly given how rarely Eaves managed to have good scoring depth at forward...this might be one of his stronger groups of forwards. The thing with Rockwood is I would suspect he was costing decent scholarship dollars being Canadian/out of state and Grunwald probably was eating some salary cap out of the 18 rides you have to divvy up too. I would hope some of those dollars reallocate into a right handed dman for next year in Oz's next rabbit out of a hat trick he performs. The other 3....no money as walkons, but you have several other walkons and at some point carrying 40 players in a program makes no sense.

Interesting development down in DIIIville as Mike Eaves has been named head coach at St. Olaf in Northfield, Minn.

After spending that long on the wrong side of the river, I'd want to live in a nice MN town, too!

New staff cleaning house as they should for progress.

In light of recent developments, will they be headed to St. Olaf?

Maybe he is doing this like Dick Bennett in BB to get his son some experience...

You would have to think that Michigan Tech would be the likely landing spot for Schuchuk. Gary is one of the assistants there now. I don't know what their roster situation is, but it would make sense.

One does wonder, doesn't one?

On Rockwood, Milewski doesn't say these guys were all cut, just that they won't be back. Seems to me Rockwood has real D-1 talent, but I think he hasn't developed physically at the same rate as his classmates. Whether that's because of injury or his health issue is just slowing him down, I don't know, but he definitely seemed off the pace this year. It could be he was facing diminished playing time this coming year. Could be he felt he needed some time to get back his mojo. Could be he just decided D-1 wasn't for him. Could be that Tony didn't see a place for him in the line up next year too, but I wouldn't think he'd just be cut outright. (He could always redshirt a year.) Could be some personal issue that we know nothing about.

I'd think he'd be a real points machine playing D III next year if he chose that route.

I did a quick edit of the recruiting spreadsheet with the new roster changes.

Think I got everything.
