I'd consider Springfield, MA once the casino is completed downtown. The Mass Mutual Center is a perfect size for hockey at over 6800 seats. The venue is 1 hour from both Quinnipiac and Yale, 1 and half hours from RPI, 1 hour and 45 from Union, 2 hours down 91 for Dartmouth, 1 and half hours from Harvard, and hour and a half to Brown. The teams with the longest drives would be SLU, Clarkson, Colgate, Cornell and Princeton. This is a central location for all the teams. The only thing that it doesn't have is the history of Lake Placid. But its a lot easier to get to for the majority of the teams in the league.

LP is a great place to visit, occasionally. I think after 3-4 years of walking the same main street and hitting the same 4 or 5 bars and the same 4 or 5 restaurants, it gets old unless you are a winter sports enthusiast. Boston is a great destination and it would be a terrific spot if the ECAC and HE ever merged (LOL), but other than that, I agree that it will never be the way it was when the old ECAC tourney was held there.
I know few will agree with me, but after the new Albany Convention Center opens (2017) and the TUC is renovated (this year), I would like to see a rotation between LP and Albany. The ECAC is set in LP through 2020. By then downtown Albany could be much more attractive for this event. The Times Union Center was built for hockey and the new convention center and arena improvements are designed to accommodate major NCAA events. There are pluses and minuses to both LP and Albany. The bottom line is, you will not draw large crowds anywhere if you don't have at least 2 of the top drawing teams (CCT, Cornell, Q'Pac, RPI, Yale in the field. Think MAAC basketball, which drew 3,100 to a championship game without Siena.

I'm sorry, I just hope this guy keeps on posting forever. It's just one laugh after another. It's kinda like FlagDUDE without the violent outbursts.

If it's about a central location, they'll go back to Albany.

If they want to host the tournament in a slum with a casino in it, Schenectady will fit that bill soon enough - but why they'd do that when it failed so spectacularly in Atlantic City...

Rather than reshuffle the ECAC, it seems to me that the far better solution is to replace the entire top level of ECAC management. They seem to be failing at several core metrics. Who has the authority to hold them accountable?

I'd love to see the 24 hockey coaches and the 12 athletic directors team up to force the hiring of some competent executives in ECAC headquarters far, far more than to have any further conference re-arrangements.

You kind of answered your own question, but I think the overriding problem is that the Ivies are a little bit more in their own world and aren't as wrapped up in the day-to-day of the ECAC.

Given this, what is the likelihood of the Ivies breaking off from ECAC hockey and starting their own hockey conference, similar to what they do in basketball?

I think that if UPenn elevated back to a D1 program obviously they would break off. I don't think they will until that is the case.

That topic has come up all the time conference changes are mentioned for the last 30 years. If it hasn't happened yet, it's not happening.

The Ivies will remain a part of the ECAC. However, they were the reason why Hockey East was formed. They still only play 29 games, however, other non-ivy school presidents like the affiliation with the Ivies in the ECAC. As far as FF's comments regarding the ECAC hierarchy, they are hired by the collective ECAC AD's, so it would be the AD's holding them accountable. However, school AD's and coaches are sometimes not on the same page when it comes to what is good for the league. The AD's take their marching orders from the President's.

Well, that logic's just iron clad. Gonna go ahead and apply that to nuclear war.

I mean, you can't say that definitively unless the Ivy League disbands. There will always be the risk that those six pull up stakes.
