Interesting development in the funding of the team (and all athletics):
          https://www.reddit.com/r/RPI/comment...ics_budgeting/

The Institute has decided to remove the budgets of NCAA teams from the purview of the Union Executive Board. Prior to this decision, non-Coach expenses for NCAA teams were routed through the Union, and budgets were subsidized by the Student Activity Fee.

Discussion to take place at 5pm here: https://www.reddit.com/r/RPI/comment...ill_be_taking/

I've always thought that the student-funded nature of the hockey team and other athletics programs was one of the more unique parts, and it's a shame to have that removed from student oversight.

Per the Union Annual Report, the Union was subsidizing $1.6 million of Athletics' budget. Total subsidy to the Men's hockey team was $204,746, down considerably from 2014 due to a change in the way ticket sales were removed from the Union's income.
          http://union.rpi.edu/sites/default/f...20APPROVED.pdf

Not entirely sure what it all means, perhaps we'll learn more at 5pm, but essentially it seems like the student activity feed should decrease, and the $1.6 million in expenditure will come out of tuition and general Institute funds.

That is most interesting. I wonder why.

It seems like a lot of things that made RPI hockey different are disappearing -- the Holiday Tourney, the band on the stage, the announcers on the catwalk, and now this.

Rensselaer scored the first goal, and the place went bananas. It started before that, as the fans were loud and crude during Clarkson intros. Ya some may not like the crudeness, but because I am old school I love it. Nothing makes me happier than to see a great student section with a great band and that is what the Engineers have...... http://blog.collegehockeynews.com/20...ink-ecac-29-2/

It's never been a part of the "Rensselaer Plan"!!
I've been lost since 1989. I got a breakaway on a frozen river and have been skating ever since.

No team dominates a game for 60 minutes, that doesn't mean they stopped playing. Their are ebbs and flows to every game. That doesn't mean the team threw in the towel when the ebbs come.
This team has a bad system in their own zone. They play very passive and let the goalie take care of the outside shots. This is not giving up. The problem with the system is that we are giving up puck possession and one mistake will end up in the net.
We don't have a very explosive offense, so we have to keep the puck out of our net. But if we cannot possess the puck in the third period, we are sunk.
The system we are playing has to be perfect and we all know that being perfect in not realistic.
We have shown that we can beat the best teams in college hockey when we are perfect, so I won't rule out anything for the rest of the year. But we are going to need to be more aggressive in the third period if we have a lead. We need more puck possession in that instance to at least keep the opposition from setting up and taking target practice. JMO
EHF: This post and the last one on the Clarkson score thread just plain nailed it. I have been trying to say the same thing for a long time. We keep being told the boys here do not buy into the system. Well, of course they don't because the system does not work. I have followed for so long that i have seen great RPI teams, very good RPI teams , Good RPI teams, bad RPI teams and terrible RPI teams. The last few years we have been in the good to very good range and have nothing to show for it. Your post hits it on the head. All anyone need do is take a look at the history of RPI coaches and their winning records (especially when you break them down to late in the season and playoff games only). Thank you.

True, and that is more important as one grows older.

at least in the men's room. Troughs in the women's room must have really been uncomfortable, though.

Just one more point I would like to make. We have no puck support. When we win 50/50 puck battles, we either try a long pass or put into open ice. When our opponents win those battles, there is always a teammate close by to control the puck.
I have just noticed this in the last couple of weekends, but it is glaring when you look for it.
                                Again, a system failure.
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
