  • Colgate @ RPI, Saturday, January...16th

Our Red scores a very nice home win against a ranked Cornell squad... but there is no rest tonight because a resurgent Colgate team's coming to HFH.

While we were blanking Cornell, Colgate was scoring three third period goals to snach one from Union, 4-2. They're putting things together... so we need to be bad hosts and take points from the visitors tonight. Over the last few years, most of our games with 'gate have been close so be prepared for a tight game which means our Red has to skate their game. There are no gimmies.

    Let's Go, Red!

Weirdly enough, going to miss posting both games vs. this opponent. Have fun, all.

After a great win, I always fear a let down.
We need more offense, more shots on goal and more goals. We can't continue to give up 40+ shots and expect to win.
Cornell is a really good team, and we did what we had to do to win. Now lets do what we have to do to win tonight.

Wow. No band, no goal horn, no piped in music, and now... No flaggy!
The HFH won't be the only quiet place tonight.

Just wondering-what is are overall record for these autism awareness games? Does the noise, the horn, the band, the music have any effect on any home advantage we would normally have? if indeed all that stuff adds up to home advantage.

edit: I believe we are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in ECAC games with this all being too small a sample to compare.

I also fear a let-down, but that could also apply to Colgate.

And that's how it ends. Union actually outshot RPI 33-32. Selander gets her third shutout in the last four games. Goals by Rooney, Gruschow, Horwood.

Has RPI hockey ever had three shutouts in one weekend before? And...not to jinx things for tonights game, but, has any D1 program ever had 4?

Not in any way trying to diminish what our ladies did this weekend but....I would think Kazzie shutting out Cornell (#5 in the nation) is a bit more difficult than shutting out the Union women twice (have they won a game?). Shutouts in NCAA hockey have become far more common these days than way back when i first started following RPI. Many games back then ended with a team scoring 6 or more and we had players with 5-10 hat tricks per season. I think the QU goalie for the men this year has 7 shutouts already. So in answer to your question, probably has happened but doubtful that it has happened all that often.

Hey, Dr. D let's not start a Kasdorf vs. Selander thing here . They are both great goalies. Yes, shutting out #5 Cornell is amazing, but shutting out #2 Quinnipiac is not too shabby either .

And my bet (being too lazy to actually look up the stats) is that no D1 program has ever recorded 4 shutouts in a weekend. Go Engineers!
