Congrats to Joel Johnson on again being named head coach of the USA's National Under-18 Team:

Is this unusual? I would assume they would keep the same staff for a full Olympic 4 year season. No? Who are the other coaches? A mix of East coast and MN?

Also, does Johnson go to see the girls at the National camp in St Cloud or just 66 girls?

Just to add to what KTDC posted (without editorializing) last years staff was a mix of east and west as you asked and the article linked by D2D mentions that Johnson will be at St. Cloud as well.

I imagine this gig takes a decent amount of time and that many coaches are unable or unwilling to commit to a task that takes away from their actual job. That would reduce the number of willing candidates. While the sample size is too small to see if that is what they are doing having the same coach repeat would, I think, provide some continuity and predictability for the players on things like expectations and system.

I would think the honor and the recruiting advantage would be substantial. Although I don't know that MN needs it but if your a coach for MN St or OSU or Penn St or Maine you would jump at the chance to do this.

The 66 spots for Maine have been filled. I expect US Hockey will post the list today or at the latest tomorrow since the girls start arriving Friday. At least I hope so...

The St Cloud list will be very long. (216 for the 15's and 180 for the U18). Without going to each District , I would think those lists may not come out until July.

You are correct. The initial Roster had her listed from Minnesota it now says New England.

It's about talent not politics. The New England Dist has been sliding for the past several years. They had to fire their Regional Director because of the girls he was sending to National Camp and a variety of other reasons. When people claim something isn't right than it must be politics. Look at this objectively, where do most of the D1 recruits come from? Minny!!!! Are all of the D1 coaches wrong?
