  • Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

Always hate starting these threads as they usually don't generate much interest. I will be posting some updates on Yale recruits and i am sure we will speculate about who is coming in. Heisenbergs list does not help the matter as he shows over ten 2015-2016 recruits. hopefully one of them can snipe. Local reporter has also speculated about Lyon possibly being courted as a free agent, hope that is false. The future looks bright for this team with most important players returning, hope we can add some more pieces to the puzzle next season.

I read somewhere that Lyon said he is "definitely" returning for next season. Of course, things can change, but this isn't like Kentucky basketball. Most of the kids that come to Yale want the education.

      Speaking of Lyon:

      http://www.yalebulldogs.com/sports/m...20150329oic5dt

Let's Play Hockey and the Herb Brooks Foundation has announced five finalists for the 2015 Mike Richter Award, which honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men's hockey. Yale's Alex Lyon, coming off a 39-save performance against No. 2 Boston University in the NCAA Tournament, was listed in the elite group.

From college hockey Inc. website. Still too many commits listed for next year, I think we can count on the ones in bold for next year, Smith Brothers are wild cards, Snively may be the sniper Yale needs. Will put up stats later.

Piotrowski may jump some earlier recruits as he is a 95 birth year.

Yale at Arizona State next season?

That would be nice because I could see the Bulldogs live and in person

          http://nhrcollegehockey.blogspot.com/

Here's the non-league schedule to date:

Exhibition with the University of New Brunswick at Ingalls Rink, date to be determined between Oct. 23-25.
Oct. 30: vs. Princeton at Trenton, N.J.
Oct. 31: vs. Maine or Vermont at Trenton, N.J.
          Nov. 28: at Providence
          Dec. 11: Boston University
          Jan. 5: at UMass

Yale is also close to finalizing a two-year, four-game deal with Arizona State that would include a two-game set in Tempe, Ariz. on Jan. 8-9 and two games in New Haven in 2016-17. The contract is expected to be completed by next week.

We b*tch about AHA teams on our schedule, now we are going to play 2 against a half club team?? Can only hurt our pairwise situation.
But I'm sure Tempe will be nice in January.

I seriously hope that they reconsider playing Arizona. I have no problem with 1 game vs. AHA team especially if local, but playing Arizona is a joke- why not just play Connecticut College while we are at it.
Interesting that no more MSG vs. Harvard. That was a fun event and I'm surprised that Yale would want to cancel (article suggests this).
A few hockey east teams make sense, but what has really been missing for a while now is a series with a Western team (and Arizona doesn't count).
Sadly, I cannot say I am surprised by what appears to be poor work by scheduling folks. I wonder how much (if any) influence Allain has on scheduling. Anyone know.

I believe the Arizona game will replace one of the exhibitions, no more Russians from what I heard.

It looks like it's replacing a tournament in Vegas that both of the teams were entered in. Since you guys were already coming out this way I guess you just decided to come here.

Alex Lyon, Rob O'Gara to return next season

The Bruins wanted Rob O'Gara now. Alex Lyon is still receiving interest. Both will be back in New Haven next season. The story:

NEW HAVEN >> Alex Lyon’s numbers were second to none, yet he lost out on the Mike Richter Award as the nation’s top goaltender earlier Friday. But Yale’s rising star would get his due later in the afternoon, named an All-American along with teammate Rob O’Gara.

Perhaps the best news of the day for Yale? Their coach, Keith Allain, confirmed both will put off the NHL and return to school in the fall.
