Re: St. Lawrence Skating Saints Lake Placid Edition

Just some useless statistics from this past weekend

    Team Avg GF Avg GA

    QU 3.00 2.33
    SLU 3.00 0.50
    CU 3.00 1.50
    HU 2.00 2.00

And just for fun and to show how much the game has changed, looking at the 1988 and 1989 SLU Q-Finals:

    88 7.50 1.00
    89 7.00 2.00

No wonder some of us are nostalgic!!

Yes, we pulled the goalie in 2010 against Princeton. We needed a win. It was officially a tie even though we won in a shootout. That was more exciting than the championship game which I recall was a blowout unless I have my years mixed up.

I'd always rather have to play and win to determine my destiny than to sit and hope. To me, we are all there in LP, we want to see our team play, so drop the puck on the consolation game already. Ideally, this year, we could see Colgate goon it up against Q.

Btw, the year everyone is discussing that we tied Princeton and won in a shootout in the consolation game was in 2009. That was the year that Yale beat Cornell 5-0 in the Championship game. Your memory does serve you well it would appear

2010 we lost to Union 3-1 and then decided not to show up for the consolation the next day against Brown and lost 3-0. Still it was fun to watch an extra game win, lose or draw and I am all in favor of bringing back the consolation game!

Just a reminder for folks who wish to attend the pregame reception Friday before the game, SLU is asking folks to preregister online. The event is free of charge, but SLU will take donations.

Link to the event is here: https://alumni.stlawu.edu/ECACHockeyChampionships

Coach Carvel will be saying a few words at the event. It appears many former players and current player parents will be at the event.

Even that was a lost opportunity as I remember a Brown player taking liberties against a Saint and Brandon Bollig started to go after him and then stopped. That was Bollig's last game and if ever the dentist was going to let them fly in a college game it should have been then.

So I did remember correctly. That 2009 final was a total snoozefest.

If you are not following @SLUHockeyEquip on Twitter, you should be. He is cranking out some seriously great behind the scenes photos of the bus trip, the practices, the dressing room, equipment setup etc.. Especially great if you can't be in Placid in person.

I'm reliving my hockey reporter days by aggregating everything I can find coming out of the tournament all in one place on that page. Now over 500 members there.

Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It's been 37 years since my last CCT-SLU game.

Father, forgive me. I was tempted to join the St. Lawrence Hockey Fans page. Is that a mortal sin?
