Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence
ND had us scouted really well, Jackson's jam and clog gameplan was executed and it frustrated the living hell out of us, and Petersen was excellent all weekend. Hats off to them, they played well. That said, we have to adjust to these things. I don't know that every team we face is going to have the personnel or coaching to follow the blueprint ND used, but you can be sure everyone is going to be watching those tapes and taking concepts. Jack's full-speed zone entries were scouted to a tee, he has to learn to adjust to defenses that know what he's about to do, he can't just bulldoze and dipsy-doo his way through. That said, we still outshot them 80-39 and didn't really make any disastrous defensive mistakes that led to goals. A couple of bad penalties, but no one play really stands out as, (player) *** were you thinking with that puck. I actually thought Saturday was one of Fortunato's best games all year, though he absolutely has to work on his shot, it's a major crutch for him.
I knew we were giving up more goals, but I didn't realize it was that much, eek. OC's been a bit more jumpy it seems. If you watch tape of him earlier in the season, his movements are more subtle and matter-of-fact, they've gotten a bit herky-jerky and more pronounced. It would seem to imply his confidence may be a bit shaken and he's trying to overcompensate. Hopefully that can get worked out and he's able to stay more fluid and under control.
