  • 2015 Pairwise Discussion & Predictions

The other thread is going to be locked soon so with the end of the season approaching, I figured it would be time to split the topics.

We'll use this thread for the tournament discussion and I'll create a new Posters Poll thread.

Here's the link to the Pairwise Predictor.

And lastly, I put up a Bracketology on BCI this afternoon.

TTT, BC is currently the #1 team... do you think that being in the worst conference (based upon current rankings) this year will hurt them in March?

Splitting hairs but Hockey East is worse than the CHA? 2 top 10 for HE (#1 #7) CHA 1 top 10 (#10)

How so? If they are #1 they are #1.

The first year for a CHA auto-bid, and at this point anyway...looking like the first year the CHA possibly, potentially, may not have a legit top 8 team.

Not to start a flame fest but...

Once you get beyond the top five, it doesn't look like there is a ton of difference between the other TUC teams. There were years that I though the field of teams that were a threat to win it all was a little deeper, but maybe that's just how I'm remembering it.

Well -- I think what you're seeing this year isn't so much "weaker" teams at the bottom, as just a lot of parity and the top 3 teams are INCREDIBLY good.

Sorry, I didn't mean for this to be so curt, I was walking into a meeting and was rushed.

What I mean is -- if come March they are 1st in the PWR, then from a rankings perspective it doesn't matter if they had a tough or a weak schedule. They won enough games with the schedule they had to be #1 in the PWR.

Now having said that, will having a weak schedule make them unprepared for the NCAA tournament? That remains to be seen. Do I think so? No, because with the exception of the rivalry game with BU, we've kicked the everyloving crap out of every good team we've played. I really don't think it matters all that much. I think there's something to what the players have been saying which is "we practice against the best team in the country 6 days a week."

Hockey East was pretty weak in men's in 2012 (? I think, might have been 2010, it's easy to lose track when you win so many ) but BC ran the table in the tournaments to win the national title. So, I think it has more to do with how well your team does to prepare itself for the tournament than how well your team's opponents prepare your team for the tournament.

I'd agree with that, but there is also value in how the opponents prepare you. Teams learn a lot about themselves when pushed to the limit. Wisconsin and Minnesota may have preferred to have their series four weeks later, but there is still value in playing it now. You're forced to make decisions and plays faster, because the opponent is on you quicker than usual. I've seen enough Wisconsin teams to know that they'll be better in March than they were last weekend. BC did the fly around thing in the first period against BU, and the Terriers were still there. I think that game helped the Eagles more than all the games combined where they pounded some overmatched opponent. Practice is great, but practice speed is not game speed. The best thing that could happen to BC is if it catches Q, BU, or Harvard on a night where that team is on top of its game. Because at some point, there will be a stronger test.

The silver lining to getting beat by Bemidji and dropping to 4th in the Pairwise is moving to the other side of the bracket, away from Minnesota (though how long that lasts is anybody's guess).

Quinni made a determined effort to drop a place today too...

Does BC broadcast their away games online? I'll have to watch them.

No BC 'broadcast' but I'm pretty certain UVM has live video for free
