    Nope. The other #1 seeds are NCHC so Mankato would have to play #13 Denver. The precedent is the 2003 tournament, when #1 Cornell had to play #14...Mankato.

      That would be Fargo.

          Jim Dahl is at it early - take a look. Doesn't get into where the teams are ranked but lots of interesting stuff.

            I'll start my own thread January 1, but here is the current projection:

            Fargo
            #1 @MavHockey vs @RMUhockey
            @UNDmhockey vs @GopherHockey

            South Bend
            #2 @UNO_hockey vs @Yale_Hockey
            @UVMmhockey vs @BGFalconHockey

            Providence
            #3 @UMDhockey vs @MerrimackMIH
            @mtuhky vs @TerrierHockey

            Manchester
            #4 @Harvard_Hockey vs @DU_hockey
            @MiamiOH_Hockey vs @RiverHawkHockey

            (They're in twitter format...sorry about that)

            Had a question last night about Duluth's chances to land in Fargo, since it is the only true "western" regional this year. Seeing as North Dakota is the host, and a conference-mate of Duluth, that knocks them out if they are in the same band. It also knocks them out if they are in the opposite band (ie 2v3). So they have that hurdle. If they remain a 1-seed, they have to be the top Minnesota seed (right now that's Mankato) and they have to hope North Dakota doesn't finish as a 4-seed or rise above 6th, since it would be awkward to put the top overall seed with a host at #5. Given that, I'd put Duluth's chances of coming east at about 80%. Of course, the easiest way for Duluth to stay west is for North Dakota to miss the tournament entirely and be the top overall seed.

              Five NCHC and three WCHA?

              I have a hunch one of the NCHC schools falls out, four/three NCHC/WCHA respectively seems more realistic.

              B1G I think may have a surprise auto-bid winner to put two into the tourney. A quick hot streak of three wins at tournament time and a surprise winner is in.

                Four is probably likely but 5 is a definite possibility given the NCHC's strong OOC record that will bolster their pairwise across the conference. Also, I'd say given the competition and last year's result in the NCHC tournament, a team that is out of the top 16 PWR could add a 5th team.

                  With all due respect to our Purple Cow friends in Mankato, we're Mavs, too.

                  In the FWIW category, UNO became the Mavericks in the summer of 1971. Our bovine friends to the North didn't adopt this moniker until July of 1977.

                  Therefore, we officially proclaim squatter's rights to the term "Mavhockey".

                      Why don't you just do brackets for next year's tourney while you're at it?

                          So i'm wondering, with BC no 23 in the pairwise, what's the lowest team at the break that has ever made it in? Aside from the autobids?

                            Nebraska-Omaha tied Alabama-Huntsville tonight and dropped from #2 to #4 in the pairwise.

                            Fargo
                            #1 Mankato vs Robert Morris

                                Yale is 15th in the pairwise, they could never win it all from there!
