We're playing ASU next year. After that FB fiasco a few years ago I'd like to obliterate them on the ice, but next year will still be a year with a young roster. An experienced bunch had one heck of a time with PSU a few years ago. Not feeling too good about it. Maybe after this weekend I'll have a more upbeat outlook.

There was some discussion about our 1st halves under Eaves, so I put together the following table. NCAA appearances are noted by the season years being in bold in the 1st column. When either half of the season was under .500, those cells are highlighted yellow. I considered the first half to run through the ol' Badger Hockey showdown when applicable. Unsurprisingly, there were no NCAA appearances when they were under .500 in the first half with the exception of 2012-13 when they got the autobid.

The "first half" record for 2014-15 should be 1-10-1 (assuming we always divide the season at the break). Also, something to note is that the 2012-13 team didn't need the autobid to make the tournament. They needed the tournament games (maybe that's what you meant), but not the automatic bid itself.

But they still needed the wins, so it was the essentially the same thing.

Win 3 games in a row or too bad.

Their lackluster regular season put them in a bind.

As for the autobid, yes, as has been said, we needed the wins which necessitated winning enough games to get the autobid.

Maybe after this weekend I'll have a more upbeat outlook.

I'm just hoping the boys even get to the KC on Friday. Out of the handful of games Bucky has played relatively well in this year, zero have been on a Friday. I'm hanging on to the idea that coming off a win and nothing but hockey to think about will somehow translate into showing up for the opening puck drop in this series.

Semantics, I suppose, but I completely disagree with the auto bid thing. I don't care that they needed to win the last three games. The body of work overall that season said they had a good enough PWR to make the NCAA's. Win's in October count the same as they do in March.

And don't forget Wisconsin went like 1-7-2 when Kerdiles was suspended that year. I don't think I'm going out on a limb suggesting the record would have been modified had he been in the lineup all season.

But anyways, none of this matters today I guess.

Does anybody think Joe LaBate should be centering a line?

I don't necessarily but I kind of wonder if he thinks he should be.

I do not. I don't think he has enough speed to cover the ice well enough. I do believe he lobbied Eaves to let him play C in the past and Eaves had him play C, though the results were not that great. Maybe at this point it's worth trying again. I have not seen enough UW hockey this year to get a feel for how Hughes and Rockwood are doing @ C, just what I saw last Saturday, and nothing jumped out at me in either a positive or negative sense.

I don't think he should be at center for the exact reason you said, he's not a good enough skater. He could get by on the third line last year against lesser guys, but not up top now. I was thinking the other day about Gurt saying there has been a me first, whining attitude in the locker room from some guys. I've singled out LaBate for not playing well with the exception of a couple of games. He played alright Saturday. But I haven't been able to figure it out otherwise. I was putting his poor performances together with the fact that he went from top six wing to third line center last year and as you said, word was it was in part because he lobbied so hard for it. I'm wondering if he's been in a funk because he's unhappy playing wing.

He HAS to be up top and he HAS to be the guy to go get the puck or that line is going nowhere no matter how good of a playmaker Rockwood is or how good of a shot Besse has. If he wants to lead he has to accept his role and turn up his motor to overdrive.

Hughes just needs to put on twenty pounds. He's great on his skates, has good vision and hands, and I'd put him up toward the top on motor and effort. He's fearless for a kid his size. He just needs to be stronger over the puck and I think he's going to be really good.

So weather has me stranded in Chicago. On a flight tomorrow at 7:35am. What's the weather forecast tomorrow morning? My flight was cancelled because of Madison weather.

Cold and windy. Shouldn't be any more snow.

We only got an inch or two but it's blowing around a lot.

Can't wait to watch Eichel get hammered around again by some Canadians!

Who would that be? I'm more afraid he's going to skate circles around everybody.

Who would what be? The Canadians that play for the Badgers?

I'm not sure what you want me to say, MCR... Good luck with that?

Ticket sales look a little better than last Friday for tonight, and a pretty good crowd coming in for tomorrow night.

Did anyone else get a Badger Hockey newsletter this week at all? usually there's one that finds its way to my inbox by this time of the week before a game.

Edit: I should rephrase. I normally get one on Thursday or earlier on Friday (I think), but haven't gotten one yet this week (unless I somehow deleted it AND its not in my trash folder).

K. Schulze with the shorty and Soleway with a water bottle shot have the Badgers up on BU 2-1 after 2.

The push is coming. Don't back down Bucky!
