  • Up-to-date map of NCAA DIII Men's Ice Hockey

You can find the map here.

I intend to update it next season to reflect Aurora joining the NCHA, Daniel Webster and Endicott joining the ECAC-NE, and Western Connecticut joining the MASCAC (and to update Endicott's marker once their rink exists).

    A couple observations:

    1. Interesting juxtaposition: SUNY Canton's rink is so new it doesn't exist on the satellite images, but MN-Crookston's rink was demolished long enough ago that it is gone from the satellite images.

    2. What a wide variety in distances between campus and rink. Obviously, some colleges have on-campus rinks, but others have quite a long distance to commute. A surprisingly large number of colleges play at rinks on high school or prep school campuses, especially in New England.

Also, if there are any former DIII teams I've missed (I'm sure there are), please let me know so I can add them!

I don't think Daniel Webster was accepted into the ECAC-NE.

Given that only this announcement was made, I too don't believe it is official YET.

They do get a shot at Salve Regina on Jan. 10 though.

If you're including former D3's (I see Union); Niagara, Canisius, RIT and several other now-D1's need to be included.

There were several DI schools who used to "play down" to DIII, until the NCAA said no (aka Atlantic Hockey).

How the hell did I forget Bemidji? It was a big deal a few years ago because, like RIT the next year, it made the Frozen Four having previously won championships in both DII and DIII... I'll be adding that, along with a few others!

True, on Dec. 5, 1987, UW-Eau Claire played them, barely wining 17-1.

                            Updated!

                            Changes I've made:

-Corrected the spelling of Daniel Webster College

-Added UW-LaCrosse, SUNY Binghamton, AIC, Mercyhurst, MSU-Mankato, Bemidji State, Findlay, and Alabama-Hunstville as former DII or DIII teams playing predomiately DIII schedules.

-Added Niagara, Canisius, Sacred Heart, UConn, and Holy Cross in a new category of "Former Play-Downs", as these were DI schools playing in DII/III for a period. These have a grey diamond-shaped marker.

Note: I'm only looking at teams that have played a predominately DIII schedule in 1983/84 or later, after the establishment of a DIII Championship.

University of Buffalo used to play in D3. In fact, they were in the SUNYAC (as was all their sports teams at one time). I believe their hockey team still existed shortly after the cutoff year you declared.

They played in a rink in Wheatfield, before the town owned Amherst complex (which is right across the street from the Amherst campus) was built. Their club team now plays there.
