Spencer Abbott had been on a bit of a scoring slump, so yesterday he decided to shave his playoff beard and wrapped up the evening with a hat trick:

        02/28/15 @Providence *

        & - Exempt
        * - Hockey East games

Two games remain to schedule at home vs Boston College and Boston University
Four games remain to schedule - all are assumed to be home games.

AHA: AIC, Army, Bentley, Holy Cross, Air Force, Canisius
        ECAC: Dartmouth
        HEA: Providence, Vermont
        B1G: Michigan, Penn State
        NCHC: Western Michigan
        WCHA: Bowling Green

I am afraid 2 noncon vs Vermont and 2 vs an AHA team are in our future.
Western Michigan would be a good possible fit to come to Maine...then return and play them next Year or the Year after.

I think that Vermont might feel the same about playing Maine also...sadly it looks like a AHA Team will be on the Schedule...another season or two and the Schedule should look a lot stronger.

The problem is Vermont has five openings and Maine four. There are not a lot of options left. The choice is a return series between Maine and Vermont, extra games against the AHA, exhibition games against Canadian teams or not playing at all.

Unfortunately I believe they have already released their schedule.

I hear you on Vermont...but it won't hurt to bring in Western Michigan this year and return there next season or the season after that, form a agreement between UM & WM for a 2 year series and bridge the Scheduling gap some...and if not Western Michigan, reach out to Ohio State.

I think the most likely scenario at this point is scheduling an AHA team the weekend after Thanksgiving and Vermont in January. Attendance will already be poor since students are on break and January opponents do not draw well, even high-profile ones.

It also doesn't make a lot of sense to get into a home-and-home agreement with a team like Penn State this season because there is an opportunity in 2015-16 to play 18 or 19 home games again because of the exemption for playing the Icebreaker. Bring in Denver and/or a B1G next year and schedule the return trip for 2016-17. There is also (hopefully) a home-and-home with Duluth but that most likely wouldn't be able to start until 16-17 because of their prior commitments.

Here's the latest from the Bangor Daily by Larry Mahoney, with quotes from Gendron:

It's Timmy's fault! Without him there is a lot less to complain about.

Pretty quiet until the schedule comes out. It seems like a foregone conclusion we'll play Vermont Jan 2-3 (NC) and an AHA team either after Thanksgiving or the weekend before Christmas. Western Michigan is out as they released their schedule. The home BC should be 11/17, home Lowell should be 12/5 and home UConn on 1/30. That'll complete the schedule.

                              Other Maine news:
Gustav Nyquist is in the running for Play of the Year http://poy.tsn.ca/1-nhl2014/match/31-tatar-vs-nyquist
Don't remember if I mentioned it here, but Oliver Wahlstrom is transferring to Shattuck St Mary's for the rest of his high school career. They have an OK track record of developing talent. The athletic thing runs in the family as older sister Alex was chosen as the only Maine student on the New England roster for the National Lacrosse Classic at the end of the month.
There was a nice write up in the BDN about the various Friends of Maine programs that support each sport. http://bangordailynews.com/2014/06/0...tics-programs/ "We teach people to be paranoid." I loathe the NCAA (but this isn't news).

If the league schedule is a mirror of this past season, as it appears to be, then the home game against Lowell should be the weekend of 1/16-17. I highly doubt Maine and Lowell would do a home-and-home on back to back nights (12/5-12/6)
