If you think this program is headed in the right direction you are sorely mistaken. There is a losing culture in Troy that needs to be fixed. There is a winning culture and high expectations in Schenectady. They are an entertaining team to watch. Outside of a few on this board, believe it or not, there are plenty of people in the CD that root for both teams. Where do you think those people are spending their money to be entertained? I don't think any of us are expecting 1984 or 1985 but a 12 year dry spell from the ECAC's? Not one single NCAA goal in 30 years? Not winning a single home playoff series in the last 5? Most of those played to a less than half full fieldhouse! You keep enjoying yourself watching these games, but don't blame others who don't.

I was being totally serious, just like everyone else here. This is serious business.
Keep an open mind. Just don't be so open-minded that your brain falls out.

RC talks about a massive earthquake, but probably forgot the 5.1 that epicentered in AuSable Forks about 12 years back or so. Or, like me, he slept through it.

If you notice I very rarely take you on but this is pablum. You set up the fire SA thread so all our detractors can come in and go after us. You have driven more people away with your constant nitpicking than the "apologists" ever will. If your fed up than stop posting 25X a day. If you want to have a voice, email Seth.

I'm sure many think that I've decided to swap loyalties to Colgate already. Sorry, Charlie. As a Bills and Sabres fan, I'm used to this, and was not surprised to see us choke, but doesn't mean I'm hanging up the RPI jersey any time soon. If Appert is depending on assistants to help with creativity with plays out there, so be it. However, I don't see much of a change from when Monty and Kurulak were assistant coaches with us, so it must be coming down to the ultimate strategy.

The investments put into the athletics program at RPI have been exceptional. Look at the locker room improvements, the training facilities at ECAV, and much more. The kids have the tools they need. Now, they must be expected to succeed. When you're in the real world facing a deadline to have a project complete, you don't throw your hands up to the sky and let the bridge collapse, similar to what I heard last week. You apply focus to the correct areas so that everything is pristine and in great working order.
Is there any amount of money that could entice you to switch to Colgate I could start the fundraising activities post haste !

No I think I understand and "get it". I have been going to these games since Jim Salfi was coaching. I have seen alot including a personal friend of mine getting fired as head coach of this team. Show me one sentence in my above post that says I don't get it. I'm not going to sugarcoat anything just because I am a fan. The EPIC DISAPPOINTMENT has been on the ice!!!!

                      • Re: RPI Offseason Thread: 7 Months of Drivel

Last season, in the second half, we saw the great type of hockey a Seth Appert coached team can play. This year, we saw the less-than-desirable type of hockey a Seth Appert coached team can play. We've all beat to death the issues of this team, particularly the mental ones. The goal differences from period to period are staggering and sign of a team that didn't know how to finish a game. To many games at home that either started flat (North Country weekend), or ended flat (UNH, Har, Corn, Quin, Game 3). But looking past those, looking at the team, the things that stand out to me were the down recruiting class, and lack of offensive production from the blue-line.

This team scored 104 goals this year, only 11 were from defensemen. Losing Nick Bailen hurt more than I ever imagined. And worse, just three came from freshman. Your team should never count on these two groups for scoring, but without them you are limiting your ability to produce. Particularly on the blue line, as you make the opponent have to focus on just three skaters, at all times, to try and stop.

I think the coaching staff was aware of these deficiencies this season, and have at least begun to address them in the next, and future recruiting classes. The forwards I expect to see next year (Melanson, Tironese, Nanne) appear to without question bring more to the table than this years, and the defensemen (Wilson, Moore, ____) should help on the offensive side.

I have been following RPI hockey now for three years, so the only knowledge of Appert's tenure prior to that I get second handed, mostly from this board. I know of all the playoff failures, have witnesses two myself, and realize that losing four straight times at home is more that bad luck. But at this time last year, we were all looking forward to the potential of this year. This failure, not just last weekend but the season as a whole, goes far beyond losing Kasdorf and all the way to Appert's lap. Considering what I've seen and heard these past few years, I'm personally in favor of giving Appert one more year as head coach. If everyone comes back, and the players expected to come in can contribute in the first year, there is a lot to look forward to next year, and I again will have high expectations. I will always support RPI hockey, but will only support this coach one more year unless things turn for the better.

*The blank in the recruits is for either Bell or Prapavessis, one of which I expect on campus this fall. All these guys and others are expected this fall, but I personally think we'll see three F and three D, paring early departures. Just my gut feeling.

If I've driven people away, then why the heck is there still a lot of posting going on around here? If anything, your ilk have driven some great people away from this board (such as cmmarkham) because they have very sound opinions but are shouted down because they don't perfectly conform to your socialist manifesto. I've shown them that it's OK to post here and do not have to put up with the attempts to create "political correctness".

Me too. Endured many 7-6 losses w/ Pete Dicenzo getting three penailites. I have no issues with the friend you talk about but you know that he mailed it in at the end. The women's coach was doing the recruiting, I know that and you know that. SA puts his heart and soul into this thing.

I'm asleep halfway through it because she takes forever and a day. And if I went to a game where the team gets shut out, usually Norris has to drag me out of there.
