I agree, i dont know who came up with this or when, but it's pretty dumb and not even clever. I'm surprised that NU Athletics haven't told them to stop that chant, I mean Deputy Dog (Mike Windsor) used to shut down the DH for far less. Did the Doghouse guys stop drinking or something?? I've found that he best heckling and yelling used to come after several beers....at least.

Add to that the fact that the student section has no sense of rhythm or tempo and it's quite discouraging (seriously, can ANYBODY clap in time without speeding up twice as fast?).
at least they are cheering/chanting. Benny Hill was watching 3 kids running around the upperdeck. What does that have to do with the game going on?

Do they need to come up with new chants? Of course. Does there need to be more during the game? Yup. I think what else hurts them is that there is never any point where there is no noise from the Pep Band or the music. We never had that issue back in my day. But now as soon as play stops until the puck drop, the Pep Band is going full blast. Total audio porn.

As for Witt, i do not think his play was up or down this weekend. It was as steady as it has been all season. Just so happened a few more then normal got by him. Not due to him overplaying, or being out of position. He got beat. It was due.

It was still classier than any day at Mullins. THOSE kids sound like idiots. I was at Matthews Saturday and thought they at least had some enthusiasm during play (although 90% of it was because Maine fans had already started their own cheer). That said, they lacked the excitement I have seen at Conte and The Alfond where students will get going any time the puck crosses a blue line in the correct direction or someone snakes a nasty pass through a few defenders.

Edit: Oh, God. And the "Shoot it!" calls. Non-stop. Perhaps, as some of you have noted, it's a lack of hockey knowledge and interest in the student body.
Me: ...but why would anyone want to vacation here? There are better mountains in NH and VT, beaches in Cape Cod and RI, and colonial landmarks in Mass and CT.

Boss: You've got it all wrong. It's Vacationland because nobody would ever want to live here for more than a week.

As a season ticket holder, I get emails about the games, about buying tickets to other games. It may not be weekly like I get from the Harvard or bu ticket office, but again, its coming. There is also enough stuff to follow on twitter, like GONUMenshockey, or whatever it is, that tweets before/after/during games. I am not on facebook but there is stuff on there too based on what I read.

Now, could there be more grassroots marketing done? I am not on campus so I cannot answer that one, but I would guess yes.

Also, if Roby and such decided to put more of the budget behind men's hoops for t-shirts/glasses/paws bobble heads, I can understand that a bit too. I mean, going into the season, I think more people were putting stock into mens hoops for doing something then mens hockey. Why dump $$$ into a 9th place team, when you could spend more on building a home court advantage for a team that could potentially challange for something? It just worked out that mens hoops tanked, and mens hockey has played above expectations. *(not the team really, just the goalie)

Its really up to the students and the DogHouse in the end to grass roots market, get to games, and create atmosphere. Roby is not keeping students from games. Students are keeping students from games.
What have been you if you didn't sneak that last line about not the team just the goalie. What team is Witt on?

With a good BU series & heck Madigan (gulp! ) is in the running for HE Coach of the Year..
I would have to say that with the coach's picking his team to finish last and they are in position to finish in the top 4 that he is probably the favorite.

I'm not sure how they decide who's on the mailing list, but I haven't received anything from the school in over a month. And I haven't saved one of the JM emails since last year, I may have gotten one early this season but I'm definitely not getting them weekly. Not sure who at the school decides which season ticket holders are important enough to market to, but needless to say, it's inconsistent.

As for attendance, I think we need to figure out the differences between this year and 08-09 (our last comparable successful season) to see what is in and what isn't in the DogHouses control.

                  Marquee home win:
09 - beat #1 bc the first home game of the season. Jon Stewart gave us a shout out on the Daily Show.
                  14 - none.

                  Villian:
09 - JVR we had thousands of students wear red and boo everytime he touched the puck. The DogHouse promoted the "there will be blood" night after JVR took a cheap shot in our first game against them.
14 - Johnny Gaudreau he could be the villian we want but I don't think it was played up this season.

                  bu was good
09 - one of the best hockey teams in history
14 - nope. And let's face it, I think NU has more of a rivalry with bu than bc in terms of sports, but also territory and academics. Can't do anything about that.

I think the lowest attendance that year was 3500. Any other differences? Those were off the top of my head.

I completely agree with this. The students can not start anything during any stoppages in play. The clapping goes way too fast, but who is to blame for that really? Can't control a group. I know a couple of the guys and they do pass out flyers and put up posters but they were told to stop with the flyers because people would just drop them and they ended up littering the campus. Also, the posters are immediately taken down from Snell or Curry due to fire code issues. Another issue is that no flyers can be posted in dorms anymore without the RM's permission, who then never puts the flyers up. There is no chalk on campus.

09 - Two home games against uch and UNH. Easy games to market.
14 - home games against UAH (x2), Holy Cross and non-conference games against UMass and UVM. Our best opponent at home was uch...back in November, before anyone thought this team could make the NCAAs.

With Hedges back and Roy-Szmatula kept together, this is a very potent offensive team. Also, I really hope Schecter keeps his spot in the lineup for Benning while he's hurt.

How are you related to Schecter exactly? The kid was ok this past weekend. But he really does not seem to have much of an idea on how to play the position. He can skate forever though. To me he feels like the d-version of Dongara. Lots of speed, looks great, little substance. He did have a nice weekend though.

As for Hedges, as long as they dont put him on the first line. I am not sure who they slot him in with. In between Jamieson and Belonger? The one nice thing about the lineup last weekend was outside of 15-19-12, the rest of the team are all grinders. Plug them in wherever, did not really matter. Hedges changes that.

Actually what I said wasn't that praising, with Benning hurt it's between Schecter and Fennell for that last spot and I'd rather have Schecter out there. Don't see how Fennell impressed you that much. Schecter can skate and that is something pretty much this entire defense outside of Saucerman doesn't do that well so for that alone I'll put him in over Fennell.

Hedges on the 3rd line with Reid and McMurtry (or Snydeman)?

Then 16-22-24 on the third line.
