It looks like this week's PWR is a pretty solid tournament predictor. The committee would certainly swap Northeastern with someone to avoid the first round matchup with UML, but USCHO would question whether or not to take North Dakota out of St. Paul for attendance purposes. That's a tough call if you're worried about attendance.

97 D Ben Newhouse (BSM) commits to Union, per @CHeisenberg. 5'8 puck-moving defenseman was our #54 uncommitted prospect.
        Another recruit for the Dutchmen.

Looks like a good get. 5'8 is on the small side for a defenseman, but Union has had success with small puck-moving defenseman recently. He looks to be highly regarded for his age group as he was invited to the National Team Development Program Evaluation Camp last March.

Like the hair too .. 33 points in 24 games is pretty good and should keep the string of quick skating d-men going. I would expect him to do at least a year of juniors (hopefully USHL) before coming to U. Nice get!!

Here's a little more on Newhouse, with some insight from overtheboards.net: http://t.co/dIxX6zYFzR

It's been a good predictor, though, and given how lousy regional attendance has been that factor is not going away. That's an unfortunate fact of NC$$ life.

I am hopeful the reason the ECAC has gotten hurt by intra-band tweaks has been because until recently we've tended to be the 3 and 4 seeds, which are moved with impunity. They are less likely to shift 2s, so as the conference improves the tourney may become more neutral to our conference.

Hosting will always be a problem and will always benefit the factory schools, but again the NC$$ doesn't dare get rid of it.

Newhouse looks like a great get, but I wouldn't put those expectations on anyone.

                    One can always hope, though.

How big are his parents? Maybe he'll grow a bit! Actually he sounds intriguing. Also seems that Union is starting to stretch out the commitments beyond a year, a bit of a change there.

Newhouse has gotten a little bigger in the past year. He was listed at 5'7/155 as a sophomore, now he is listed at 5'8/165.

He's actually the second (known) 2016-2017 commit. The other is Max Novak's younger brother, Wade.

                        As things stand now:

2014: F Ryan Scarfo, F Tyler Hynes, F Roman Ammirato, F Kevin Shier, D Connor Light, D Nick DeSimone

2015: F Spencer Foo, F Mark Dufour, F Brett Supinski, F Brendan Taylor, F Cole Maier, G Joe Young

                        2016: F Wade Novak, D Ben Newhouse

I haven't heard/read anything on that front since that early season article on him.
