And I quote from the DU website on the NCHC All-Academic team, "Each school selected their recipient based on criteria that included having at least a 3.25 grade-point average and having competed in at least 25 percent of their teams’ games in their career."

The operative phrase is "having competed in" not "having dressed for" 25 percent of their teams' games in their career. On this basis how do Wade Bennett and Greg Ogard make this team?

Glenn Hall? No. We'd be talking U-Haul as in....After losing to Neb-O in the playoffs the Pioneers loaded up the U-Haul and drove to the 2014-2015 season with all due haste.

NCHC Player of the week nominees--for defense Nolan Zajac and for offense Zac Larraza. Can you guess who won for offense?

The requirement you highlighted only applies to the 8 member National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Scholar Athlete Team,
The Academic All Conference team doesn't ave the same requirements and allows freshmen which is different than what we are used to in the WCHA.

I only got to see one game this year, but the biggest criticism I heard was with the level of talent. That problem goes back to the previous staff, who recruited most of the guys. I keep wondering, and maybe I'm stuck in the past, if the way to go forward isn't to try to put together a team similar to the first few years of the millennium. Those guys who hustled and worked together, and stayed 4 years because they just weren't quite talented enough to get poached by the NHL.

The current NHL CBA is the prime reason why more and more players are leaving early. Without going into lots of detail it is to the benefit for NHL teams to get players as soon as possible due to 1) the cap on entry level contracts. No drafted or free agent college player gets large contracts like in the previous CBA. 2) drafted college players can become free agents after their 4th year of being drafted if not signed by their team. For some players this after their junior year with most being after their senior year. Teams don't like wasting picks so they try to sign a kid a year before. 3) Once a pro the time to free agency and the big payday is shorter than in the previous CBA. Players want to get the clock started on their contracts to get to FA. NHL teams are no longer letting kids season in college for 4 years as they risk not being able to sign them. On the other hand you aren't going to win the NCAA title without having high end talent. These days high end players are going to stay 1 to 3 years. It is very rare for one of those players to stay all 4 years. You need a balance of high end talent and 4 year players. This year DU lacked enough high end talent at forward.

I thought Joey LaLeggia had a disappointing year as a sophomore in the 2012-2013 season. In the first half of the current season I thought his play was vastly improved from his sophomore season. In my view the second half of the current season has again been a disappointment in that LaLeggia's play has not been as inspired as was the case during the first half of the schedule. Additionally he has suffered a shoulder injury.

Having said all I will add that the best two NCHC defensemen I've seen this season are Dillon Simpson of North Dakota and Jaccob Slavin of Colorado College.

                              So...here are the four options.

                              1) Neb-O in two games.
                              2) Neb-O in three games
                              3) Denver in two games
                              4) Denver in three games

                              Thoughts, predictions?
