Just to add some further intrigue to the ongoing discussion of who eventually assumes the reins of the UNH women's hockey program, there's this:

I'll leave it to others to infer just what 'coaching opportunities closer to his family' might entail ...

I for one would be very surprised if one had anything to do with the other.

Perhaps, but I wouldn't be quite so quick to dismiss the possibility ... UNH has, of course, gone down this road before, and if it's Scarano's intent to hire someone with the requisite experience, yet familiarity with the program/resources, I'd have to think that Lassonde gets - at a minimum - a serious look if he's indeed interested. A further plus on his side is that he has distance - literally - from the current imbroglio that led to McCloskey's dismissal, yet is well versed in the particular pros/cons of recruiting/coaching at UNH. My personal preference would be they hire the most qualified woman candidate they can find, but I realize not everyone thinks that way (or might consider me sexist for even suggesting it). Still, regardless of what eventually transpires, can it really be sheer coincidence that news of Lassonde's resignation at Denver was released the same day as the woman's coaching position was posted at UNH?

Good stuff, jeteye. This thread is already the longest ever about an AD in USCHO Fan Forum history. Keep up the great work! :-)

Lassonde was, as has been told to me, never especially warm or supportive of the women's program beyond obligatory pleasantries and professional relationships with mccloskey.

Assuming that was true, and I believe it to be, this would be another in a long line of unfortunate injustices done unto this program from within.

If they went with Lassonde who has never coached women, it would be a major mistake...

Actually not true in 1984 when he was a senior at PC he kept his hand in hockey by being the women's assistant.

Lasonde was also an inherit from fired DU coach, you would assume Montgomery would want his own circle of trust. They are also very different

Given the evolution of womens hockey Id almost say coaching women 30 years ago would be more detrimental than helpful if he were to have to coach them now

Current speculation being bandied about: Lassonde to men's, replacing Borek to women's.

For numerous reasons, I think that's not likely to happen but I'm not a soothsayer.

To begin with, the men's team already has an associate coach who specializes in defense. Having two defensive specialists as your two associate coaches would be unusual.

Now, if Coach Tortorella has decided to take a coaching position at a different college/university, that would be a different story. That, in combination with Coach Borek taking over the women's head coaching job, would open the door for a new men's associate coach in charge of recruiting and the offense.

Did McCloskey have any experience before? Did Durocher at BU? Both enjoyed success (still in BU's case) at women's level.
