Paul Braun and Howie have been calling locally broadcasted TV games, right?

To me, it's Brian Posick's voice on crystal clear WIBA.com (sorry, AM radio...) that conjures up "Wisconsin Hockey" in my mind.

He also noted that winning helps but that it needs someone selling the program like Bob Johnson used to do. That was somewhat a paraphrase but essentially what he said. He never said another thing but it was telling to me that someone who is connected with the AD, albeit loosely perhaps (former Prez of National W Club), etc. would come out and say that...he almost sounded frustrated, which is good imo. He's right.

And I'm jacked to hear PB and Howie on the radio this weekend. Like many of your I grew up listening to them and it will be a fun night of nostalgia. Now if I can only explain to my mom - and make her understand - how to listen to the broadcast on the Interweb...sigh...
I don't know about you guys, but I've gotten the sense that many fans are like little, small-scale Bob Johnsons. They love the sport and program, and always talk about how much they enjoy UW hockey, why it's special, and encourage others to give it a shot. This intense love for the program is probably why the fan base got taken for granted, even though college hockey is not beaten into our brains as sports fans like college football and basketball are. I know I try and keep that mentality, because it's always a great day for hockey! (Ok, maybe today was a little too cold and windy for pond hockey...barely.) I show up to the games, and my season ticket purchase accounts for just one seat (though I'm pretty responsible for a couple more other people), but I hope to positively affect the experience of those around me every time.

Edit: I still think people in the program with more influence need to step up. I'm still curious about how the Madison Capitols will play into things.

PB and Howie were the tv games generally carried tape-delay on pbs IIRC

While PB/Howie combo may be exciting for history sake, but I'm not afraid to admit it's hard for me to listen to PB call a game. Minimum effort put forth in the broadcasts of games these days. If radio wasn't so far ahead of TV I'd much rather listen to Posick. PB hasn't cared for years and it shows.

If I'm covering a game from the press box I'll occasionally plug in headphones with Posick for supplementary audio to what I'm seeing because he adds to the game. I'm not sure PB knows who's on the roster some nights.

Someone mentioned a while ago how every play is a "give and go" with PB. Now that is all I hear him say. So I know what you mean. Howie was good, and I do really like Andringa now. But I agree, PB has been just mailing it in the last few years.

Good, I'm glad I'm not the only one. On the other hand, I love Andringa.

He has a few phrases these days: "come in over the line" and after every whistle "...and the play is stopped". Why? Why was the play stopped? "Shot and a goal" still gives me chills though.

I will admit since's he's only doing it for tv, he calls the game less discriptively. Years ago on the radio he was awesome, and that's the PB I'll always remember. Hopefully he'll step up to his old self for the UM game.

Howie hasn't called a game on tv for years, since left/got pushed out the door by Eaves.

Posick does more than a fine job as well, I have no complaints whatsoever.

I love Posick's calls and I usually take a radio to the game just so I can listen to him. They stream his calls on 88.1 during the games. If I watch on TV it is with the radio on in the background. Plus he is very nice as my son played mites with his daughter a long time ago.

It seems PB shut it down when Howie left. But whenever I hear "Shot and a goal," It takes me back to to my basement, when I was 9, staying up WAY past bedtime to watch those 2 on PBS. That was Badger Hockey for a kid who didn't live in Madison in the 80's. That was pretty much hockey for me back then. Those two were great together. Having Howie on the coaching staff, and doing the games at the same time, made you feel like you were going into the locker room in between periods with him. He always told you what they were doing wrong, and how they would get it fixed between periods. Pretty sure that setup wouldn't work today.

I agree Chuck...his years are probably catching up to him in some respects. He still nails "Shot and a goal!" I think PB even said something about it being easier to cheat when you're calling games on the radio. He's not at the point that Harry Caray (sp?) was near the end, but he's slowed down.

And Brian Posick's color guy this season for home games - I can't remember his name now of course - talk about showing your age -is really good. Brings a different angle to the broadcasts, not necessarily better or worse, just new.

You are correct In Madison they were on the radio too. I'm not sure if that was statewide radio or only in Madison.

Not many seats available in the 3rd deck for Saturday's game. Hope it's not too many Michigan fans.
