A few years ago Learfield (Clear Channel) bought the broadcast and marketing rights at a bunch of schools. They then created a cookie cutter website and started monetizing everything in sight. Dan Hannigan has to read so many promos during the game it is a wonder he has time to call the game at all.
Maine just ended a half-century relationship with WABI-TV and it seems unlikely any local network is going to pick up the games. This has set off a mini-riot among followers of the UMaine program. It also got me wondering: Just how many hockey schools did Learfield get, in which leagues and would there be anything precluding them from bundling their teams together and selling them as a package to lure a national or regional broadcaster? So if people here can answer a couple of questions and provide any insight it would be very much appreciated. Just team name, league and TV rights holder (if any)
School: Maine
League: Hockey East
TV: None - League games on NESN/NBCSN
Thanks!
