I'm told that 5,000 tickets have been sold so far for East Regional in Prov. That's a good start. Bldg holds just under 12,000 for hockey.

Budding hockey star Kevin Roy has decided to leave Northeastern. He will be playing for the Canisius Griffs next season. The move will be announced by the Canisius Athletic Department tomorrow, but you heard it here first.

Northeastern Assistant Coach Jerry Keefe pulled no punches. “We’re deeply disappointed in Kevin, who as late as last week was telling us how much he loved Northeastern. We firmly believe that once a player makes a commitment to us, he should honor it. We’re especially upset by Canisius coach Dave Smith’s unethical behavior. There’s no room for poaching in college hockey. But Canisius knew what they were doing. They kept an admission slot open and saved a scholarship for Kevin. Once everybody else had made their offers for the year, Canisius pounced on Kevin.”

Reached by phone at his home in Lac Beauport, Quebec, M. Roy, Père was his usual blunt self: “Kevin became disillusioned while playing for an awful Northeastern team that finished last in the league with no prospect of moving up. Besides, Matthews Arena is a dump. The last straw was when a rat attacked Kevin as he was getting out the shower after the last practice of the season.”

But why Canisius? M. Roy, Père continued: “Buffalo is a great town and Canisius is a renowned Catholic school, known for instilling solid moral and ethical values in its students. Mme. Roy, Mère, and I believe that such values are paramount to our boy’s development. Besides, all Canisius needs to do to play in the national tournament is to beat a couple of Mickey-Mouse Atlantic Hockey teams. Kevin will shine. And Coach Smith promised Kevin his favorite number 15. That was the clincher.” But how about Derick? “Who’s Derick?”

After watching the last period of U v. Q, all I could think of was how close Brown came to making the Frozen Four. If Grosenick did not make those two acrobatic saves in the second period against Brown, Bruno may have been on its way to Pittsburg.

Not shocked. Anaheim is lacking a certain type of punch in its locker room these days. And Harry wore out his welcome with his play earlier this year on the knee-on-knee contact. That said, I find it ironic that Anaheim is putting the full court press on Where's Royldo to sign him and they trade for a Brown grad. That's fun for us though isn't it :-D

When Brendan Whittet was hired, he said he wanted to win a National Championship at Brown. Everyone thought he was crazy, though they admired his spirit.

Yale will be playing in the National Championship on Saturday. Maybe it's not so crazy. Who knows what lies ahead?

Greetings from College Hill and Meehan Auditorium!

What an incredible journey the 2012-2013 Brown hockey team just completed. Your Brown Bears hockey season came to a conclusion with our ECAC Championship game defeat to defending ECAC Champ and 2012 NCAA Frozen Four participant Union College. Never the less, this past season was one of the most successful compiled by a Brown Hockey team over the past twenty years and one that I was so thankful to have had the opportunity to be a part of.

It was a spectacular season and a remarkable team. I am filled with immense pride at having had the opportunity to lead this group over the past year and to see these young men accomplish great things. This group was driven, they represented Brown each day, at every practice and game. This was a “TEAM” in every regard. We accomplished so much on the ice because each player cared deeply about each other and the program. They were all totally selfless. They were willing to accept and then excel in the roles that they were assigned. They sacrificed for each other and worked as hard as they possibly could. I pushed them daily and held them responsible and they responded.

I mention “family” each day and this group was the epitome of “FAMILY”. They were “brothers” in every regard. They had a true genuine love and care for each other. This bond was not contrived and was not forced. It was real and it was powerful. This “brotherhood” was the single biggest factor in what allowed us to succeed. It was incredibly moving to see and to experience.

The staff, the team and the Brown hockey community had an unwavering vision to win Brown’s first ECAC Championship. That vision was close to being reality. We just slightly faltered taking that last step to that Championship. Losing in the finals doesn’t diminish all that this group achieved. It was a season filled with accomplishment and my hope is that this team and this season inspired all of you as proud supporters of Brown Bears hockey.

TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS

· 16-14-6 Final Record– Most wins compiled since the 2004-2005 season; a span of eight years.

· ECAC Championship Game– First appearance in the championship game since the 1992-1993 season; a span of twenty years. Only the fourth-ever appearance in the ECAC Championship game.

· 5-2 ECAC Playoff Record– Most playoff wins ever in a post-season.

Eliminated Clarkson University (3-0W, 4-3W) at Meehan in ECAC First Round
Eliminated RPI (3-1W, 3-2W) at Houston Fieldhouse in ECAC Quarterfinal
Eliminated Quinnipiac University (4-0W) at Boardwalk Hall in ECAC Semifinals

· 9-4-5 Home Record

· ECAC Home Playoff Host– First round of ECAC Playoffs played at Meehan Auditorium for the first time since the 2004-2005 season; a span of eight years.

· 2.36 Overall Goals Against Per Game– Ranked tenth overall in NCAA Division 1 team defense and also the best team defensive statistics compiled by a Brown team since the 2003-2004 season; a span of nine years.

· Defeated or Tied Eight NCAA Ranked Opponents

#12 Union (2-2T), at #18 Cornell (3-0W), #2 Quinnipiac (1-1T), #9 Yale (1-0W), at #1 Quinnipiac (3-3T), at #16 RPI (3-1W), at #16 RPI (3-2W), #1 Quinnipiac (4-0W)

· Ranked in final USA Today NCAA National Poll (#21) and final USCHO NCAA National Poll (#23)

· Ranked in final NCAA Pairwise Selection Poll (#20) – This is the model that is used to select the 16 teams that play in the NCAA Tournament.
