  • 2012-2013 UW-Stout Regular Season Thread

After a year filled with high expectations and tough outcomes UW-Stout is looking to bounce back after a tough 8-17-2 season. Losing a tough NCHA Peters Cup matchup to St. Scholastica coming back in Game 1 to tie and losing in the overtime of the 2nd game. This season Stout has to replace some very important players, in the offensive department with the departure of senior Branden Gay. Also graduating from Stout were Defensemen Alex Breeden and Goalie Mike Morgan and Forward Joel Whited. With the first game against Marian coming up on October 20th at Marian, Stout will need to get off to a quick start and find the wins that eluded them last season.

    Returning Players:
Stout returns most of their leading scorers this season led by Juniors Kevin O'Donnell and Mike Hartviksen and Seniors Sam Carr and Charles LaChance. Stout also returns much of their defensive corps with Seniors Jason Cohen and Joe Beaudette, Juniors Logan Maly and Russell Whited and Sophomore Jordan Tredinnick. Between the pipes Tom Lescovich is expected to be the #1 goalie for his senior season with senior Nick Hopper as a very close #2. Coach Watkins likes to split time between the goalies and let the hot goalie start games.

    Players to watch for:
Look for returning players Scott Bell, Carl Bombardier, Casey Kirley, Garrett Grimstad Micky Knox, and Zach Vierling to provide energy and some scoring for the Blue Devils this season.

This should be a bounce back season for Stout and the players will be looking to return to the Peters Cup Final for the first time since 2009. Look for a very high energy, gritty Stout team this season and a team that will be scoring by committee more than just one or two players heading up the scoring.

Once the new recruits are posted we should have some "possible lineups" for Stout.

Stout opened the season with a 3-3 tie at Marian Saturday. Carl Bombardier, Jordan Tredinnick, and Kevin O'Donnell scored the goals for Stout with Nick Hopper coming up with 25 saves in the game. Marian's goals were scored by Andy Kuechler, Brian Berger, and Aaron Leonard.

Up next is a weekend NCHA series with 2 games at UW-Eau Claire. The I-94 Rivalry as known to the fans of these two teams. Should be a very interesting match-up and will hopefully show the type of Stout team we will see for this season.

Stout drops two NCHA games at Hobbs Arena to UW-Eau Claire. The Blue Devils showed that they can comeback from deficits in the 3rd period but need to keep working on staying in the game in the first 2 periods. Stout will look to find their first win of the season against a pair of MIAC teams in St. John's and Concordia (MN).

Since this happened over the semester break, I'd suspect that either he is no longer in school, or his grades made him ineligible for the second semester. Those are the two most common reasons for player disappearances at that time of year. Neither of those is something that the team could announce.

Stout ends there season with a tough loss to a very good St. Norbert team. Friday and Saturday's scores of 3-2 in favor of the Green Knights. It has been a tough season for Stout but the future is looking bright after the showing this weekend. Stout played some of the toughest hockey this season and in an impressive showing versus a very tough team. Stouthockeyfan44 would like to wish our seniors the best in their future endevours: Charles LaChance, Ricky Doriott, Jason Cohen, Joe Beaudette, Garrett Grimstad, Sam Carr, Mike Hartviksen, Tom Lescovich, and Nick Hopper. Until next season we hope to see a healthy and tough group coming back and some quality new recruits.
