The last time Minnesota came to Houghton, they chartered a jet. Just FYI.

Such a hard life, those poor Gophers. ;)

Stephen Anderson article from today, only real change is C. Pietila is in for Holmberg

Huskies set for No. 1 Gophers
http://www.mininggazette.com/page/content.detail/id/527215/Huskies-set-for-No--1-Gophers.html?nav=5009

A couple tweets from Stephen:
No surprise, several #mtuhky recruits in town for the biggest home series before the early signing period. Big weekend on many fronts.

Rix will center Eick (L) an C. Pietila (R), not Pietila centering like I said in my article. Again, Copley will start in net. #mtuhky

Also, from Tech Hockey Guide - Alexander Gillies of Salmon Arm Silverbacks of BCHL has committed. 4 goals annd 2 assists in 9 games this season

I had hopes of trying to catch the end of the game tonight (so I could watch the gophers cry and go away sad), and now I'm hearing there's no more free admittance in the 3rd period. Can that be right? They can't be charging for seats when the game is in the 3rd, are they?

Also- it looks like half the non-season tickets are still for sale, I'm guessing pricing the Goofers at "premium game" pricing backfired on them. Looks to be much emptier than it was last weekend.

And here's a Salmon Arm blogpost about Alex Gillies commitment with some audio from him. He refrences our national championships, so they're helping us recruit years later I guess!

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I was just flipping through the TV channels and guide and it looks like Fox Sports Detroit is carrying the Minny vs. Tech game @ 7pm.

Yep they are carrying it, it will most likely be the FS North feed that they will be showing.

Fun game. Eick got the 1st star tonight, Rix and Pietila got 2nd and 3rd, so that whole line.

When Jamie was in charge I was always concerned the floodgates could still open in the 3rd, but I was somewhat confident during the 2nd intermission, It's great to have Mel!

Mel's postgame thoughts:
Our guys did a great job, great win, we got the early lead, timely goals, we shot well, no real bad goals
Liked our defensive game, clamped down, and when we weren't there, Pheonix was great
He'll be a very good goalie, helps your team and gives them confidence,
Had to play a better 3rd period, didn't give them much until that PP,
they did miss a few open nets, we got a little lucky, but played well
Petan goal, incredible poise to realize where he was and get under control, he works so hard in practice, great goal
Bujstad, kept him in check mostly, not going to keep him off th eboard, just want to limit him
MN will win a lot of hockey games this year,
but we were ready to play, have to play better tomorrow,
Rix, Pietila, Eick - good line, a lot of confidence
Did little things well, Gordic blocked a shot, not sure he did that last year, etc.
Goaltender tomorrow? We'll evaluate, but Pheonix stock went up, great performance
A lot of credit to fans, it was loud righta way, if you don't have a ticket for tomorrow, get one
Tailgate at 5, will be a nice day, it makes a difference to have a full house, 3400 tonight, we can get more in tomorrow

A couple other thoughts, losing exposure like this next year will hurt I think. Kevin Gorg had good things to say about Houghton, and the campus for anyone watching FSN.

They also said Lucia said confidently off-camera that Tech will finish top 5 this year.

Also, Petan's goal should be on Sports center tonight Top 10, Buccigross tweeted it shoudl be in the list.

On the positive side Tech did this already without that exposure. Obviously key for the WCHA to do something as a group. MN has always had the exposure on FS North but will expand with BTN is my guess

My first chance to see Tech this year. GREAT JOB by the staff with the team and the lines and d-pairs. Hopefully bring even more effort tomorrow to match the Gophers. MOST IMPRESSED with Rix Eick B./C Pietila Petan Sova Stebner and of course Copley

JOHN SCOTT ROCKS

Good game, I thought the forth line was the best line- lots of speed, always pushing the play; Gordic and Gould really struggled with the speed, I kind of think they somewhat handicapped their lines. I'd hate to break up that fourth line but Rix or Eick's speed could really help out the other two lines. D. Johnstone has to get a lot better. Hopefully Seigo isn't fighting the puck tomorrow like he was tonight.

I'd have a hard time seeing Copley not starting tomorrow.

In 1.5 years, Tech went from getting a dubious SportsCenter Top 10 mention for an infamous 195' goal, to getting a legit Top 10 mention for a freshman's from-the-knees snipe. ;)

Not surprised at all. I picked tech to win on the NCAA pickem this week.....this is a deep team. Not sure if they'll sweep, but they stand a decent chance. Minnie will have their number tomorrow, so MTU better come loaded for bear. Rix, Eick and Petan have really been impressive. I'm particularly happy for Rix, who has really paid some dues.
