Yeah, it's likely Sturos is not coming to Tech at this point. They've recruited so many of "their" forwards that I don't see room for a Russell recruit who took three years to crack the lineup in a Tier I Jr. league. Most likely he's been told that he can come, but would have to walk-on and earn the scholarship money Russell promised him. So he's holding out for another offer now.

Classic "over-recruiting" scenario that happens quite often in college sports during a new coach's first couple of years.

I hope someone else gives him a look. he's paid his dues. had a really good year last year and has started this year at point per game, leading the team in SHG and game winning goals. he's big with good speed (recently listed as one of the fastest skaters in the BCHL)

It's pretty awesome to come out of class at the SDC at noon and see a huge line of students waiting to get their hockey tickets. Pack the MAC

Watch him land at Northern for the lulz. :p

Sturos did have a slow start, but at 20 years old, he's almost a point per game player in the BCHL. Frankly, he's only got to be better than Patrick Anderson to make the team, and at least on paper, it looks like he is. He's also part of a small incoming class of forwards. I'd be surprised if Mel isn't making at least some effort to keep him in the pipeline.

Anderson was given a shot because Reddick didn't get an extra year and Max Vallis couldn't play this season. I still expect Vallis to be on the team next season. I certainly hope Sturos will get a spot on the Huskies and ultimately I think it's more likely he does, than he doesn't. If he had a decent offer, I would have thought he'd have committed elsewhere already. Who knows though. I think there is a place for him and it probably comes down to what they can agree on and whether or not the Huskies can find a Petan/Gould type player late in the process. I do think there is room for Sturos right now but I assume the hesitation in the early signing period is just to see how things play out.

Who is Travis Brown? I've not heard his name before as a verbal commit and he's not on the grid?
Anyone have info on him?

Yeah, wasn't tryign to say he wasn't committed, just that Heisenberg didn't have him listed for soem reason. I think Brown tweeted it out himself that he had committed.

I quit listening to it. No point in wasting more time when the refs call that ****ty of a game. And from the texts I was getting from people at the game, it was blatantly obvious how terrible it was called.

Ugly game

John Buccigross (@Buccigross) tweeted: "Cast off for Michigan Tech Defenseman Daniel Sova. Could be back next weekend at Wisconsin, North Dakota weekend for sure. #cawlidgehawkey"

Mel's postgame thoughts - it took him a long time make it up to the booth to talk to Dirk:
We dug ourselves a huge hole, Mel was concerned about that going into it, but that wasn't the real problem
Kevin should've had the 1st, UMD good play on 2nd, 3rd goal, just can't have that
Really hard to outscore mistakes
Give kids tons of credit, battle back 4-3 and couple chances on a PP to tie the game
We dominated the 2nd period, got it to 4-2 starting to look our way
Overall a lot of good thigns, need to learn from mistakes, need better goaltending
When it was 4-3, have to kill penalty, we killed 1 in 3rd, but kept giving them opportunities
They're the most penalized team
Concerned with how they called the game, made some delayed calls reacting to UMD bench etc, need to be certain on calls they do make
Really disapointed, so much effort climbing back, but let it slip away
We'll get off to a better start tomorrow, can't give up the easy soft goals, have to win the 3rd period, can't give up 3 goals in 3rd
Petan had a few great chances, couldn't get it tonight, that's how it goes
Blake Hietila - played well, handled puck well, patience with the puck
Need better defensive coverage, goaltending, there are areas of improvement
