Is Minnesota State that improved? Last week a OT tie with Wisco and a one goal loss, now a 3-2 win over UND ?. Good start by the Mavericks.

Good start by the Mavericks, absolutely.

Looking at the box, Karvinen didn't play for UND.

And apparently questions continue in goal as NoDak bypassed the senior goaltender to go with the red shirt frosh.

The two kids with the same last name both played forward this time and on the same line with another red shirt frosh on the off wing.

The winning goal was scored with :38 left on the clock.

          OSU beats UMD also.

          So much for the rankings.

            Lots of upsets tonight!
No. 3 BC loses to No. 5 BU
No. 5 North Dakota loses to unranked Minnesota State
No. 7 St. Lawrence loses to unranked Clarkson
No. 8 Minnesota-Duluth loses to unranked Ohio State
No. 9 Mercyhurst gets tied by unranked Quinnipiac

If tonight is any indication, this could be a very interesting season!

Read the staff has been very impressed by Miss Jensen's progress throughout her red shirt and even more so during preparation for 2012-2013. A local, EGF native I believe.

I would not classify all of those as upsets. BU over BC and Clarky over SLU are not upsets in my books. I had the winning/lower ranked teams ranked higher in my own assessment. Clarky was ranked higher than SLU in the USCHO ECAC preview. Got a full account from a friend on the North Country tilt. By all accounts a very good game. Sticking with my prediction that ECAC top three will be Cornell, Clarky and Harvard in that order.

It is not all that uncommon to see upsets early in the year.

OnMAA, notwithstanding your own assessment of how these games were supposed to go, I think most would agree that when a higher ranked team gets beat by a lower ranked (or unranked) team, it qualifies as an upset. And in their Weekly D1 Picks, Candace and Arlan went a combined 0-8 in the first four games above, so they must think these all qualified as upsets (albeit some more so than others).

I do agree with you that it's not uncommon to see upsets early in the year, until things start to sort themselves out.

Penn State beating VT 3-2 after 2. I am not sure that is really a big surprise, after all, VT only had 4 wins last year. But, every win by PSU in their inaugural year will be considered a success! One more period to go.....

Penn State wins 5-3 with EN by Birdie Shaw at the end. Shannon Yoxheimer and Micayla Catanzariti each with 2 goals. All goal scoring by freshmen. Congrats to PSU!

There is no issue in goal. You put the best players in regardless of year. Just lost focus and couldn't finish aka we choked.

Clarkson sweeps SLU 3-2 this afternoon in Potsdam.

End of Period 1: Clarkson 2 SLU 0

Nisbet on a beautiful setup from Skirrow
Ambrose on a beautiful setup from Rattray on the PP
                          Shots: Clarkson 13-7

End of Period 2: Clarkson 2 SLU 0

A penalty filled period 2 on both teams
Clarkson killed one 5 on 3
MacDonald of SLU stopped Rattray on a breakaway.

                          Final: Clarkson 3 SLU 2

SLU scores early in the period as Howe had the puck go off the top of her glove on a rocket shot from Sabatine
Clarkson once again takes a boat load of penalties
SLU ties it with a PP goal with about 6 min to go. Looked like the puck was thrown in from the corner and was tipped in front.
Skirrow scores on a 2 on 1 breakin with 3:24 to go. A great wrist shot over the goalies glove top shelf.
Clarkson has to kill a 5 on 3 in the final minute of the game.

An entertaining game. SLU controlled a lot of the game. Thought their passing was crisper than Clarksons with carrying the puck into the offensive zone and setting up their plays better. I was impressed with Clarksons new defensemen Ambrose and Fast. Too many penalties taken in this game by the Knights. Need to clean that up. LGT

After two periods, Penn State and Vermont are tied 1-1. Vermont has mainly controlled play as shots are 30-11, but Penn State has had some opportunities (as evidenced by the goal; they also had a 2-on-1 late in the 2nd period).
