The EIT is only required if you eventually want to become a practicing PE. I passed the EIT as school wound down, but never finished the PE process as I would never have a need in my industry for a PE other than to make my business cards more impressive. However, if you doubt the value of the degree, my company is a good example. I do the same work in my position as another person with a 4-year business degree. My salary is $10+ more than the other person simply because of the degree and different job title (Application Engineer vs Application Specialist). The similar situation would exist between two people doing the same job with ANY four-year degree and a 2-year degree. The pay grade difference is there because if you don't pay someone based on their education (even if you do the same work) they won't be working for you for long.
